Wow that is a great story. I wonder if his knuckle cracking friend will be there?

He could have a little bitty Hero tag if you ask me.

FTA: School officials realized the great, great grandson of Collin McKinney - an area settler who signed and helped draft the Texas Declaration of Independence - had never received the diploma and held a graduation ceremony for him at McKinney High School last fall.

I think the town was named after his relative maybe. I am not sure though.

You know, this guy proves that you CAN turn a dumbass tag into a Hero tag, it just took him 8 decades

TheHopeDiamond 2008-06-15 03:23:17 AM
No, he's a dumbass.

Monkeypillow 2008-06-15 03:24:23 AM
It's cool that he finally graduated, but why quit right before graduation?

/Is cracking your knuckles that big of a deal, anyway?

Would he be considered a Senior?

Just goes to show that loyalty and intelligence don't necessarily go hand in hand...

Not impressed.

Does anyone else here think that the spiffy tag gets more clicks because of it being blue? Human psychology ft(?) ?

Kind of a silly reason to not get your GED for nearly 80 years.

Well at least now he be able to find a decent job.

I withdraw that statement. Upon further research I have concluded that links seem to be clicked for their content. I apologize.

What do you mean?

It's obvious that he's finally crumbled and has now snitched on his friend.

Traitor.

Yes, the opportunities in America for a strapping, high-school grad like Mr. McKinney are unparalleled in the free world. Why a fella' like that could take a correspondence course on small engine repair & set himself up real nice-like.
Yessir. Real nice.

TheHopeDiamond: No, he's a dumbass.

This. I wouldn't not graduate because of a friend. Seems ungrateful to me. If it were a real friend they'd man up. He shouldn't have to be loyal, the other guy should. Then again this was 80 years ago, and he would've only "graduated" with the combined knowledge of a 5th grader so what does it matter. I wonder if he went to school in those little 1800's school houses you see on television?

Yeah, back up a "friend" who let you drop out of school so he wouldn't get detention. Good call there.

What makes you think you can judge him like that? Maybe his teacher spent the last 8 decades preventing him from getting the diploma, but they finally kicked the bucket and his appeal got through.

Well, back in the day, knuckle cracking was a huge problem...nowadays they only need to worry about kids bringing guns to school and other issues.

One might thing back then was a much simpler and more pleasant time if all they had to worry about was knuckle cracking.

Seeing as the average person didn't graduate from high school until just before 1950, I believe, if he threw his diploma away just before graduation, that's crazy. People didn't even go to high school all that often back then in '34, especially with the depression forcing kids into work.

In 1934 it was, apparently. I sure wish that were all the problems we had with students today.

And we wore an onion on our belt. That was the style of the day.

I guess I'm fortunate that I go to a decent school. There may be an excess of stupid kids, but there's not a whole lot of violence.

And then his family cheered too loud at the ceremony and the police showed up and kicked them all out and the school mailed him his diploma.
