Threadjack: My heartfelt condolences, rats make amazing pets. I didn't get a chance to respond in the Caturday thread about Peanuts passing. My brother had one named Rocko who was smarter than most dogs. I'm sorry to hear Peanut wont be coming to Raturday anymore.

Win...

Seriously, if you have a large enough population of mice that they're dying of old age (or from the food) in the corners the place is beyond hope.

Jynnjynn 2008-06-15 01:01:36 AM
I know this is not remotely similar in scale... but on the subject of laziness, freshman year in high school I was working on an art project in the hallway, and had spelled out my name on the wall in scraps of masking tape. High school kids do that kind of thing.

now every year rather than cleaning the grafitti off the walls my highschool just repainted the building over the summer.

The next year I came back and they had simply painted over the masking tape on the wall rather than taking the 5 seconds or so it may have taken to pull it off, creating a now permanent and very visible "Jynn" shaped ridge on the wall. it was painted over again each subsequent year I was there, growing more visible each time.

saw a dead possum tonight as i went to the store, it was very fresh, when i came back the same way..gone.
as to mouse infestations, there a big problem here.
every week Chinese restaurants are closed for this very thing in my county...as well as finding cats hanging in the fridge....thought it was just a myth, but no, saw the pictures..

Hialeah seems to represent some of the worst excess in corruption, lack of zoning, lax enforcement, etc in greater miami, so it's not all that shocking. In Hialeah you'll find factories making rat poison right next to residential subdivisions, hole-in-the-wall (literally) coffee shops everywhere that haven't had the most basic floor sweeping or express machine washdown in a decade, etc, etc, etc. Given that the typical cuban restaurant in Miami uses rancid lard in everything they make, I stictly avoid them.

"Do you see these? Those are mice that have been painted over. There is a tail. There is one, two. And it smells like mice here. These are mice that have been painted over."

this is genius commentary, I want to work this into a great melodramatic movie, or maybe a deadpan cop show

oh well, alternate line for the script:

From one pet rat owner to another, I offer my sincere condolences. Someone put it nicely when they wrote that the lifespan of a pet rat is painfully short. It's true. They are such awesome, personality-filled, inquisitive, loveable pets whose lives are far too short. I wish they wouldn't always get such a bad rap. SO much better than a hamster ot gerbil, like a dog really. I'm very attached to my three boys, and I will be sad to see them go, just like the five before them - Caesar, Tintinius, Tibernius, Nero, and Cassius.

This article prompted me to check the local health board site for reataurant closures this year. About half the closures were for rodent infestation. Nope, no where I eat has made the list, but the year is only half over.
