Wow, putting pennies in urinals..I'm in VA where when people refer to "the war" they don't mean Iraq, and I've never seen that. I do know of some crazies who participate in the re-enactments and take it so far they make their own hard tack, then let it age for authenticity. And when they get "shot" in a battle, they don't get up and sit in the shade, they lie there until everyone is done and get carried off the field on an old-timey stretcher. They're more harmless history geeks, who maintain the battlegrounds and don't have much time left over for hatred. They do have a hard time finding people willing to be union soldiers.

That's probably because it takes time and a LOT of money to put together an authentic 'kit'. Not to mention the fact that the further north you go, the more twitchy local authorities get about registering .50 muskets. Re-enactor or not, that's the sort of thing that gets you hassled.

South Postpones Rising Again For Yet Another Year(p)

Around here, most of the Confederate re-enactment regiments have detachments which can operate for either side. One particular North Carolina outfit portrays a Pennsylvania cavalry unit.

Oh, and I participated in a Revolutionary War reenactment a couple of months ago, so I guess I'm required to get a kick out of these replies...

In NY at least there's no problem. The Rev/F&I War re-enactors I know don't seem to have any problems getting their hands on ordnance, either. One just has a cannon in his garage, parked next to his wife's car and their canoes.

Another friend of mine used to do Civil War reenactment in PA, but quit because the dudes in grey kept seeming to forget that they weren't actually in the Civil War and kept giving the blue guys concussions with their musket butts.

I just went camping to Gettysburg last week, some I'm getting a kick blah, blah, blah.

If the South rises again, doesn't that mean that then they are above the north, so that in turn would make them North and the North South and they would hate themselves an -BOOM-

You'd be surprised.....

Every Pennsic war that i've ever been to had at least 20 state and local police cruisers around it. They checked tags, pulled people aside for random checks and outstanding warrants, nailed people for 'speeding' 5mph over the speed limit, and generally played 'harass the freaky re-enactors' all week long.

Him: Oh yeah? Well enjoy this copy of "Ream My Ass, Blackzilla!"

John Wilkes Booth members have been known to put pennies in urinals, making sure to leave the Lincoln side face-up.

Meh. If they were really passionate, they'd use a five spot.

Everyone is pretty cool about it where I live. Even though Oklahoma wasn't a state at the time, there were a few battles here. We have a local SCV camp near here and they're a pretty good bunch of guys. I'm eligible to join, but don't have the time.

FTA: "Experts say the divisions within the Sons vary between two extremes. On one side are the traditionalists, members who focus on cleaning up Confederate grave sites and conducting Civil War re-enactments.

On the other side are the so-called Lunatics..."

So it's basically like any other organization, but love the description. It's also a nice touch that Lyons used the Yiddish word "kvetching."

You mean the group of people who are sons of those who were pushed to war (in part) due to the Fire-eaters are having problems with extremists?

Shocking!

I would pay big cash money to see an SCA v. SCV Battle Royale.

They could each put up a pot of valuable goods that the other side could use:

SCA could ante a US Grant $50 bill apiece so the Confederates could finally have something to wipe their asses with.

SCV could ante up all their toothless women so the SCA could finally get laid.

Don't forget to tip your server!

These "southern pride" groups are so full of crap. If a single one was trying to fly the actual flag of the Confederate states (or could even pick the flag out of a line up), I might buy it.

But noooo. They all just want to fly the nice racist associated battle standards.

First, it's not the liberals burning flags, but the radicals. I think it's a measure of prudence among radicals.

Burn an American flag, and you're burning a symbol of liberty and freedom; it's a bit silly to defend freedom by attacking people who burn its symbol.

Burn a Confederate battle flag, and you're burning a symbol of oppression, hubris, rapine, rape and murder. Attacking Confederate flag burners goes perfectly with the theme.

Now, if some white Southerners are so wracked with guilt that they insist on indicting their ancestors at every turn by flying the stars and bars, then that's their perogative.

Farkers living in the area where these douchebags operate can ensure hilarity by emplacing pennies into urinals tails side up, thereby forcing the truly dedicated Boothian to have to reach in and flip them over.

Give it up, Northerners. Talking to a Confedhead is like talking to a Truther and a Creationist all in one. They will always claim that they were the victim just trying to maintain their way of life, despite that way of life centering around slavery. They will claim that they were just defending themselves from the North when they fired on the Spirit of the West and Ft. Sumter.

nanded 2008-06-14 09:00:32 PM
You'd think the south would be eager to forget a part of history where their treasonous ancestors got their asses kicked by a bunch of pansy, liberal New Englanders.
