Keystone Light? Sounds about right for beer pong.

I saw some kids playing beer pong once. It seemed to involve lots of screaming and yelling and very little drinking.

The Grim Creeper: A game of beer pong takes about 10 to 20 minutes. When playing beer pong, each side typically gets 2 - 3 beers per 2 people. Essentially, that means each person drinks 1 - 1.5 beers in 10 - 20 minutes. If one team does well and the other not so well, one team doesn't drink much at all. Then, the losing team generally has to sit out for awhile when another team challenges the winners.

It's been quite some time since I've played beer pong, but I seem to recall that the drinking I *had* to do as a result of the game play was *in addition* to the drinking I was already doing on my own.

Obviously someone didn't bring their A game. This is how you lose the competitive edge.

That was probably wannabe-fratboy-douchebag-pong. Real beer pong involves lots of drinking, for people who are good at it (a group of people not including me). One of the pics in my profile is of me splayed on my ping pong table after several rounds of said game.

I wish they would make a power hour or kings game for Wii. It seems like those would be more fun than beer pong to play a video game version of.

Out of curiosity, do all of you call said game beer pong? 'Round these parts, we call the game where you toss a ping pong ball into a pyramid of cups "beruit." Beer pong refers to the game where one uses a ping pong paddle to hit a ball into a cup. Regional differences? If so, what do you call the game with the paddle?

Certainly, whenever I want to slow down my non-stop, liver-pickling, dawn-to-dusk drinking I briefly put down the Jameson's start up a game of beer pong.

There are a lot of them. Hell, just plain old Wii sports + booze = comedy gold.

FTA: "Jennifer Cipolla Hamilton, executive director of the Northern Virginia chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, said her organization is investigating the game and would be "very disappointed" to find that the game glamorizes drinking in any way."

Drinking *is* glamorous... get over it.

Slap a mature rating on it. Kids wont be able to buy it ( and seriously - with all the good games to pay money for why would you pay for this anyway) and people who would want to play beer pong are going to do the real thing anyway. Plastic Cups: $1. Ping Pong balls: $1. Stupid sim of the game: $25 - $50? Stupid.

Brought to you by the makers of such great games as "Sim Parallel Parking" and "Sim Brush Your Teeth".

I had to rearrange my apartment so that we could set up a beer pong table (aka, my bedroom door on my kitchen table) and still manage to see the TV to play the Wii for those who suck at beer pong and keep losing. Also good for Flippy Cup.

I LOL'd. Hard.

I'm a big fan of flip cup as well. The last time I played beer pong was at a BBQ/Pool Party with some band who managed to invite strippers over. If I can get my farking PDA to actually sync the pictures onto the computer, I will post the boobies.

Until I met a few kids from Wisconsin I had never heard that name before. The extra -py nonsense still kinda bothers me and makes the game sound much less fun.

kungfumaniac: You mean Beirut?

Yes, they do. Unlike for flip cup, the nomenclature for Beirut gets worse as one crosses the Mason-Dixon Line.

Lastly, as an aside, how did they decide what rules to use in the game? I've played for the last five years and never been to two houses using the same rules. Frankly, its rather frustrating and a complete waste of a buzz to argue over rules in the middle of a game.

I always knew it as Beirut, and the version involving paddles at beer pong. Might be a regional thing.

1) Why the hell would anyone pay for this? Yet another example of Wii "junkware"... Nintendo needs to find some way to limit publishing of bullshiat for their system.

2)Like hell MADD is worried that people are actually going to play this game. They're using it as an excuse to shriek that the drink is evil.

3)What purpose does MADD serve anyway? It's not as if there's anyone out there that doesn't know that drunk driving is illegal and/or a generally bad idea. Even their latest ads don't seem to be concerned with driving under the influence, but drinking period. Why would anyone waste their time and money funding and volunteering these neo-Prohibitionist morons?

My old house has the house rules posted on the wall by the table.

Not everyone has the space to set up a pong table in their house/apartment/dorm room. If it's a halfway decent sim of beer pong, I'll probably end up getting it.

Luthiel: My old house has the house rules posted on the wall by the table.

We had them written on one of my old tables. Arguments still happened because we had odd house-rules, but at least we could point to the writing on the table to end the yelling.

Most of the country refers to the game where you throw the ball into the cups as beer pong. I've noticed it's mainly in the northeast where it's called beirut.

No one down here plays the game with the paddle.

It's a WiiWare game.

It's a simple, low-budget game that's going to be available on Nintendo's download service for a few bucks. It's not a full-fledged, packaged game on a disc.

It's not really different from Xbox Live Arcade. It's designed to open up Wii development to more people, lower the barriers of entry to Wii development, and encourage innovative or even experimental game concepts that people otherwise wouldn't take the risk.

Tribeca 2008-06-14 07:03:36 PM
Wow, I guess the soccer moms will really be angry when they realize there's been a beer pong game out for the Wii since November (on the Game Party game).

Also, when I was in college in Illinois, we used the names "beer pong" and "Beirut" interchangeably. We never played a version using ping pong paddles.

luckybastard 2008-06-14 07:04:20 PM
I'll get it if it's Wii-ware.

Won't be quite the same, but if it even barely resembles it, it'll be good for a laugh. We're all a little too old now to actually break out the beer pong (beirut) table at parties, but on the Wii, it'll be good nostalgia.
