State-funded fertility treatment? What, a fifth of whiskey and a gigolo?

Big deal. Most lesbians are already fertile.

They make Americans look even more backwards. Not only did they pass common sense civil rights laws, they even did that shiat by decree. That is badass progressiveness.

I have a friend that is Norwegian and he really freaking hates the Swedes. Every time that American Express commercial about the guys find out they were Swedish comes on he gets very insulted. He doesn't seem to know why Norway hates Sweden so much either. Apparently they just do.

So is that why?

I hope you like the government confiscating 70% of your pay while they pull the plug if you need treatments like dialysis for chronic disease. You won't have enough money left over to pay for it out of pocket. Why do you think healthcare is so cheap in Europe, my friend.

It's complicated. Scandinavians have a love/hate relationship like brothers, and with Sweden being the biggest brother, Norwegians and Danes probably harbor the most resentment. Of course, if a Swede does something amazing on the world scene, we're still a little proud that a fellow Scandinavian made good.

It goes back centuries - basically, Denmark and Sweden were in a non-stop state of war, pausing only to re-arm, from the end of the Kalmar union around 1520 and up until the Napoleonic ages. Norway as often as not was the prize in these conflicts, which must have been really freakin' annoying. These were nasty wars, too - ethnic cleansing is not a new invention, and armies of that day "lived off the land" - i.e., they took their supplies from the locals at swordpoint.

Norway was part of Sweden (formally, it was a union, but everybody knew who was the bigger power...) from Napoleon's fall until 1905, where they declared independence and the Swedes agreed to dissolve the union.

Of course, with the introduction of democracy and industrialization, the Scandinavian countries have all walked down more or less the same path, so there's no real bad blood anymore. It's mostly a joke, although the fans of the respective national soccer teams have to be kept separate on game day.

FWIW, my old regiment was founded in 1658, when we broke the Swedish siege of Copenhagen. We carried the battle honors for that on our standard - never mind what the Swedes thought of that.

Dude, it's Norway. First, a fifth won't do anything to the inhibition level of your average Norwegian, and second, they'll much rather drink the hooch they make out back than any imported Gvt.-taxed whiskey.

Granted, Norway is a beautiful country, even if it rains to much in Stavangor. But regarding Norwegians hating Swedes...yes, they do. And its not just Swedes but pretty much everybody, I get the impression that Norwegians only like Norwegians.

Now as for those Norwegian lesbians...do they know how to sing? 'Cause that's what I would do if I was God.

You're ability to corrupt a thread about lesbians, Norwegians and eventually over taxation, especially regarding alcohol, in order to make a stupid leftist comment is commendable.

I've got news for you Mr. Stupid, everyone is free to kill brown men by the millions.

So, you don't have a problem with the government giving preferential treatment to one variety of relationship, but not offering similar protection to say, extended families?

I can't be the only one bothered with the government deciding what kinds of family arrangements are "valid" and confer benefits.

Martin contends the lease agreement that Camden is trying to enforce is invalid because it violates Florida law.

The lease defines a service member as only someone on active military duty, which is contrary to Florida law, Martin said. The law recognizes reservists and members of the National Guard as service members in addition to those on active duty, he said.

He might have a point there. The guy was a good tenet for over 4 years. Most things say you can just give 30 days notice and move out once you have been in the place over a year. Even if he is let out of the lease by the court I'm betting the property company tries to put something on his credit report anyway.

Hell I had a complex try to bill me to replace the missing fan in the bathroom THEY took out six months before we moved and never replaced.

A lot of it actually stems from World War II. The Swedes remained "neutral" yet through the war, was supplying Germany with iron ore.

There is still anger today from the Chinese and Koreans over their treatment at the hands of their occupiers, the Japanese.

Also, there is still resentment over the 1920 Treaty of Trionon, which ripped Hungary apart, after WW I, giving Transylvania to Romania.

Wait, they already accept polygamy, now they're allowing gay marriage? They're doing it backwards! Gay marriage is suppose to be the slippery slope down to redefining marriage as more than a man and a woman.

Actually, countries like Norway and Sweden, and other lower-echelon democracies, have the luxury of exploring some of their more hedonistic tendencies, although Biblically and morally wrong. They do not have to maintain such a high-profile international presence as the United States does. As a leading nation, we cannot afford to dabble in such indulgences.

I was talking about the United States. Not Saudi Arabia or some Muslim country. I don't see what it has to do with my point. America will not allow same-sex marriages because quite simply we do not as a nation believe in them.

Did you give a damn about the issue before the whole Gay-Marriage issue came up? I don't know anyone who cared before Massachusetts legalized gay marriage. The whole "get the state out of marriage" meme is little more than thinly disguised homophobia.
