I love how these legislators need more money, because their $143 a day session fee just isn't enough. How many of these guys do you see living in trailers? Huh? I didn't see any of them featured at mytrailerpark.com. I know sexretaries that make an extra 15-20,000 per session. Let's see some tax returns farkers.

Looks like they didn't learn from the PA legislature from a few years ago.

In Pennsylvania, they have the good sense to do this at 2 AM.

Brazillions of lobbyist dollars have been violated in the aftermath.

/golf clap

Can we do something about improving the salaries of those in the military? I figured I might as well through that out there, since that's also being put out there in self-interest.

What, the 2 for 1 coupons for Applebees was't enough?

Well, that wasn't too bad, except the damn things keep expiring while we're all still deployed!

HOLY CRAP.

I just realized...

Wow...this is why I should do this stuff before I work all day.

Those brave souls, if only we could find a way to thank them for their dedication to improving the country one legislator at a time.

Can you not release this kind of responsibility to some kind of GAO type apparatus that sets legislators salaries and adjusts it for cost of living increases? It's like conflict of interest has lost all meaning in the US.

We're talking about people making less than 40k a year here. Sure, we can pay our legislature next to nothing, but that also makes them much more susceptible to bribes. Also, making government jobs low paying maintains a rule by the rich and prevents qualified but poor citizens from running for office.

As that like when you're really interested in one thing but also interested in another and then it's like a conflict? Like when you have a girl whose ok, but like, get with another girl cuz shes hot.
hurrrrrrrrrr.

Louisiana legislature votes in favor of doubling their own salaries

Wouldn't you?

Obviously the parish bosses that put them there have raised their rates.

Fark Louisiana.

Oh what to say? (Is again a resident of Louisiana)

I think they now make more than the median income of Louisiana BEFORE their per diem and expense account. Yet the job is essentially a part time job. Also, they get their retirement based on their last 3 years salary. So several of them increased their pension as well. Two steps forward, one step back.

So the senior members of legislature, like Ann DuPlessis who proposed the original bill to TRIPLE their salaries, drive a Mercedes 500 (http://thedeadpelican.com/images/34.jpg), while the average LA resident works their ass off. That makes sense completely. 9_9

/Is ashamed of the Legislature, Bobby Jindal, and the state as a whole

Most of them have jobs/own business on the side. The rich and connected families already run the state for the most part. Hell, they were making on average what a average family made with their per diem and expense account added in. What, they needed 50K plus per diem of $150/day and a $8K expense account?

What, it was the OBVIOUS tags day off?

In IL, Obama's mentor (probably another one who saw promise in him) and the Senate President, Emil Jones is pushing for a pay raise. If they fail to vote on the rejection, it passes. This man stated that he would need food stamps if they got no pay raise. This guy is a douche. He is a sewer inspector with the City of Chi and makes a lot of money doing that as well.

Just another example of how America's tax revenue so well spent by the local, state and federal governments. And why they keep creating new and raising existing taxes.

You're doin' a heckuva job Gov. Bobby Jindal.

The guy is turning out to be a dud.

Jindal's trying to keep his inexperience and incompetence under wraps for four more years -- until the 2012 GOP Vice-presidential spot comes open.

I was thinking that pay raises should be voted on by the public, but this works too. Hell, it would probably work better.

I just don't want these bastards to have the power to raise their own salaries.

And we here at fark are suprised by this why????

$37,500 is hardly overpaid and indeed most of the legislators could make far more in the private sector.

Legislators don't just work when the legislature is officially in session. Not even close.
