"Update 1: AdamB has informed us that this is perfectly legal and within the DOJ capacity in the comments, and that it is the issue of detention itself, not by extension the evidence the detention was based upon, that the Supreme Court ruling addressed. Thanks, Adam."

Hmm... I agree with a Kos posting.

Attaching signing statements totally negating the point of duly passed legislation is bad enough. Doing basically the same thing to supreme court decisions just boggles the mind.

January 20 can't get here soon enough.

And he had to pretend to Mr. Furley that he didn't even like oil companies even though he was in bed with both of them? That was a hoot.

If the SCs decision says that the procedures in place to determine whether you get a military tribunal or a trial in court were faulty, then how in the hell can you say that the detainees already scheduled for a tribunal should still receive a tribunal?

That's like saying, "The court determined that the procedures we used to convict all these people of murder were unconstitutional. So, we won't use those procedures on anyone else. But, we'll go ahead an execute everyone currently on death row."

Bad 80s sitcoms usually end with the hapless protagonist learning a lesson about his misguided ways at the end. There will be no such revelation here.

Well, I don't see how it could get much worse than the neocons. If McCain wins, same thing as usual. If Obama wins, any facepalms probably won't destabilize an entire region of the globe and plunge our economy into the shiatter.

I would never with death upon anyone, as it's just not my style. It doesn't feel morally right to judge someone to that extent that I say that they should live or die. It's not my place to make that judgment.

When it comes to Bush & Co., this rule still applies. I cannot, in my heart, wish death upon the man and his cronies. But I can honestly say that if, God/Buddha/Tree Goddess forbid, something tragic were to happen to them and they should shake off their mortal coil, I can't say I would be sad to see them go.

The evil they have unleashed, the damage they have done to this country, and the innocents from both sides they have killed have negated any feelings of grieving for their expiration.

Now, if you will excuse me, some black cars have pulled up and some large men are knocking on my door. I think it's my pizza. I'll be right back.

baka-san: That stupid farkwad really believes history will see him as a great president. That is what boggles my mind.

Tears run down his face at the moment he realizes what he has created. All his efforts were for naught. He knew that god was guiding him, his actions, his words, until he heard the true word of God.
God says to bush, look back upon your administration, who have you helped.
Bush sits, thinks, responds.
God says to bush, look back upon your administration, who have you hurt.
Bush sits back, thinks, he begins to cry realizing the voice he had followed so dutifully for 8 years was that of Satan, he takes the knife in his oval office desk's cabinet.
Bush kills himself as penance.

Riche [TotalFark] 2008-06-13 07:14:51 PM
Bush has long ago decided he isn't going to be restrained by the law and the constitution. That means the ONLY way to stop Bush is impeachment and removal from office.

...And Pelosi has made it clear impeachment IS NOT going to happen. Even if it DID happen there are too many Republicans in the Senate who put their loyalty to their party before their loyalty to their nation, so Bush wouldn't ever be convicted in the Senate.

Bush knows this. So he's going to do whatever he wants, and to hell with the supreme court.

Seriously-- at this point is there ANY outrage Bush can commit at this point that would get him impeached and thrown out of office?

The precedents this guy is setting is just...horrific.

Yeah. Thats not going to happen. Bush will leave office and go on and have a library named after him, or something and retire in Crawford, TX. End of story.

I was pointing out the bias in what gets greenlit, whether it has merit or not. 11 out of 21 threads against GOP, with zero against the Democrats. If it's damning to Republicans, it will get greenlit.

Yesterday, a FARKer asserted that the ratio of Democrats to Republicans posting on these political boards was equal, "maybe a few more liberals" was her quote. I counted and the ratio of left vs. right posters was 13 to 1. Later that evening the ratio had worsened to 20 to 1.
