Dear President Clinton,

Please continue your outreach to the 8th graders of our nation. In fact, continue your outreach to everyone - the young, the poor, the aged, the sick, the rich- anyone, really, that will listen- despite the fact that many won't.

Someday, you may inspire a child to follow in your footsteps, much like JFK did for you back in the day. And if you can pass on your legacy of good government and even-handed rule to a future leader, and avoid the back-asswards/unjust/cruel BS that we've endured for the past 7 years, my hat's off to you good sir.

THIS

If you have any heart, you'd give a speech to your nephew's eighth grade graduation if you were famous regardless of how famous you are.

scseth 2008-06-13 04:16:19 PM
Anyway, I wasnt joking

Obama makes surprise visit to a Chicago 8th grade graduation ceremony.

I think it was the day he canceled his original plans due to midwest floods.

You know, he was well liked up until this latest election. Sure he made a bunch of gaffes, and certainly helped Obama's campaign, but seriously, wasn't he like, the best president in modern history?

wpmulligan 2008-06-13 04:20:08 PM
He was looking for a date for Obama's second inauguration.

I find the whole "kindergarten", "5th grade", "8th grade" etc "graduations" pretty much overkill anyway.

Nobody gets a "diploma" (that means anything at least) from their grade school or Jr. High. The only ones that mean anything are your High School (just barely), and your College ones.

I find it about the same as the "participation" ribbons phenomenon.

The Eyes of the Law: Alberto Gonzales Delivers Graduation Address
By David Lat

You might be wondering: at what law school? You don't recall seeing Alberto Gonzales's name on this long list of law school commencement speakers.

Well, it wasn't exactly a law school. And it wasn't in the continental United States.

Our latest legal celebrity sighting, from the Virgin Islands Daily News: "Former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who served in the Bush Administration until his resignation in September 2007, gave the commencement address at Free Will Baptist School's graduation ceremony Friday night, delivering a personal story of how his persistent pursuit of education brought him the American dream."

Free Will Baptist School is a high school. And not a very large one.

As noted in a separate article:"The six members of the graduating class, who became best of friends in their years together, promised family, friends and well-wishers who gathered at the Free Will Baptist chapel that they would hold the teachings of the Bible close as they take the next step in their journey to adulthood."

So apparently the former United States Attorney General will speak at high school graduations, to six graduates and their families. Does he do children's birthday parties too?

xbattlewax: Seriously why the fark is there an 8th grade graduation? You've got 4 more farking years.

I heard an old lady call up a local talk radio station yesterday (the topic was about a cancelled 5TH grade graduation party), that the 8th grade thing is a carry-over from old times, when a lot of people didn't get past 12th grade because they had to work.

Dunno if it's true or not, but it seemed to make sense.

Well that's just the kind of thing that happens when your wife decides to leave the kitchen to accomplish something, fails miserably, and brings shame to your family name.

He has disgraced himself both in AND out of the office of president in 7 years? I think he was briefly out while getting colon surgery or something. I guess that might count.

AuralArgument 2008-06-13 06:22:23 PM
we had 8th grade graduation here in ontario,

but we also did'nt have middle school.

and we had grade 13...

now we don't have grade 13 and universities are easier to get into.

I'm not a fan of the man or his politics but I think it would be cool to have any former living President give a commencement speech to 8th graders. And he did this for his nephew so he's being a cool brother and a cool uncle.

/I said living President because I know you farking Farkers would start breaking my balls with "What if I could get Grover Cleveland, Squidloe, would that be cool?"

mr_shhh 2008-06-13 07:57:53 PM
Does he still get paid a pile for personal appearances? If I made what he made I'd give a commencement speech to box of Jello, for the money.
