Are you suggesting that there is a method of electing a president that does not depend upon the electoral vote count? Because if there is, I'm sure McCain would love to hear it.

The electoral college doesn't matter to conservatives? or is it just you guys don't care about polling results because they're nothing a little luck and Diebold can't fix?

Hey, it's always nice to get good news. But this early in the game it's somewhat moot.

flavor of the month 2008-06-13 01:46:19 PM
thats with a tie in VA, a loss in NV, and a win in MO. none of those are certain. unless mccain develops some kind of coherent message i think things will continue to drift towards obama.

one thing helping Obama is the glut of very strong candidates for statewide office in states that are within in his grasp. VA, NM and CO sen, and the dem running for MO gov is up pretty big.

yeah and I bet the boys at Stasi were pretty smug knowing the controlled the guys guarding the Berlin Wall too. By the time they realizeed what was going on it was too late and they were left desprately trying to flick thier bics and get rid of the most incriminating evidence before the mobs knocked the door down.

Every candidate, regardless of party, gets a bump in the polls when they become the presumptive nominee. McCain got one too.

No one should say they didn't expect this. Does it matter? Only until the next poll comes out.

It' June.

It's not even LATE June. It's EARLY June.

Holding a pre-natal pullet census can cause you real problems.

UNC_Samurai [TotalFark] 2008-06-13 02:37:12 PM
Since when did aggregating state poll numbers become any more accurate than a straight national poll? They're both way off base. Six months before the Iowa caucus, Edwards was more than five points ahead of his next competitor.

President Dukakis can tell you about the fact that polls in June hold up into November.

The RNC and McCain have more money than the DNC and Obama. Obama is wasting money at a tremendous rate. Clinton donors won't donate to Obama. Dean doesn't know how to raise money for the DNC.

4 and a half months of RNC/McCain heat on Obama will melt his candidacy.

Obama has started off with such an insanely negative campaign that by the time McCain pulls out the big guns in October, there will be no backlash to the October Surprise?

So what is the October Surprise? The Whitey Tape? Obama being linked to drug dealing? Obama making yet another gaffe (funny how such a supposedly eloquent speaker is so gaffeprone)?

It will be something to make you Obamacrats regret turning down Hillary Clinton.

It's June.

And this is the same site where 2 out of it's 3 algorithms predicted Kerry winning.

From the poll site: "Where did the polls go wrong? The problem states were Florida, Iowa, New Mexico, and Wisconsin..."

From Kos: "After finally moving ahead in Michigan, and following some corrections on Indiana, Barack Obama is turning five former Red States Blue (Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico, Missouri & Ohio)..."

If Iowa, New Mexico, and Missouri go blue, I'll be surprised.

My point? Polls are pretty worthless right now.

McCainDemocrat 2008-06-13 03:25:20 PM
When you consider that Obama only won Missouri due to polls showing Clinton winning by 10, it would take another miracle for Obama to beat McCain in Missouri.

Remember, the Gut of America starts in Oklahoma, goes to South Missouri and Arkansas, then into Tennessee, Kentucky, and then to Appalachia.

Obama can't win the gut of America.

Numerous Hillarybackers all over America are preparing to back McCain.

If McCain is truely smart, he will take advice from Bob Corker. Corker won an upset over a moderate named Harold Ford by disorienting the Ford campaign with negative ads. If it would work on a moderate like Ford, it's guaranteed to work on Obama.

Ya, the LAST thing the Obama campaign is going to expect is the GOP to start attacking with negative ads.

What in God's name are you talking about?

President Dukakis can tell you about the fact that polls in June hold up into November.

This is the only point you make that I agree with. 5 months is a long time. Anything can happen on either side.

The RNC and McCain have more money than the DNC and Obama. Obama is wasting money at a tremendous rate. Clinton donors won't donate to Obama. Dean doesn't know how to raise money for the DNC.

Oh, so wrong. Obama has consistently shattered fundraising records and has more than 2 1/2 times the money in his warchest than McCain. Not to mention, Obama isn't accepting any money from special interest groups or lobbyists, unlike your guy.

Oh, and then there's that little incident where McCain borrowed $4M from his local bank early on because his campaign was bankrupt. Then he borrowed $4M from the Federal Election Committee to pay it off. That's a CLEAR violation of the same spending limits he himself swore to uphold.

Obama has started off with such an insanely negative campaign that by the time McCain pulls out the big guns in October, there will be no backlash to the October Surprise?

Negative campaign? I've saw Obama give McCain a back-handed compliments in his speech on June 3rd, but nothing outwardly negative in anything prior or since. And certainly not the mud-slinging of elections in the past.

To his credit, though, McCain has backed away from negative campaigning, as well. But FoxNews is doing his job for him, accusing Obama & his wife's knuckle-bump as a terrorist signal & referring to Michelle Obama as "Obama's Baby Mama".

So what is the October Surprise? The Whitey Tape? Obama being linked to drug dealing? Obama making yet another gaffe (funny how such a supposedly eloquent speaker is so gaffeprone)?

First, there is no tape. I've said this since day one of hearing about it--the tape rumor is just that. It's a Karl Rove-like distraction that gets everyone talking and thinking there IS a tape when in fact none exists.

As for gaffes, look to your own candidate. "It's not important" when the troops come home, he admits he doesn't know a lot about the economy, doesn't know computers, needs Lieberman to tell him who's supposedly being trained in Iran--the list goes on.

It will be something to make you Obamacrats regret turning down Hillary Clinton.

...and I have no bloody idea what point your trying to make with that last statement.
