He didn't lie, he was mistaken; which pretty much sums up his defense of the last 7 years.

I tried to explain why it's called the "strategic oil reserve" to a Naval War College Professor the other day. That did not end well.

All they have is "drill, drill, drill." It's like arguing with a child. Apparently, sapping our emergency reserves will solve everything.

I have no idea what planet these people come from.

BearToy [TotalFark] 2008-06-13 04:02:41 AM
NewportBarGuy: All they have is "drill, drill, drill."

I had a friend who was a cocaine addict. His dealer started flaking out on him and was charging him a lot more because he said his suppliers weren't delivering. Not having a bump as often as he was used to, combined with all of his money going to get all the coke he could find was making him very depressed and angry. Me and the rest of his friends knew that there was lots of coke out there so we pitched in to find it and bring it to him. Having all the coke he was used to made him very happy.

He's dead now. Not so much because of just the coke, but because his lifestyle of spending more money than he had and partying all the time. He treated life as something disposable and it ended up disposing of him.

So the lesson I learn from this is that... YES we most definitely need to drill for more oil in any place where there might be a pocket to get us by for another couple years.

Took a little while to get there but came out nicely in the end.

I see what you did there.

You know, living in the midwest and moving out to the west had taught me something. Once you develop-you don't get nature back. Not true nature. Not real nature. Not been around for hundred of years nature.

Not just his defense, but the entire Republican party's for the past 7 years.

"There are WMD's in Iraq! Ummm, sorry about that--we were mistaken."

"Hussein was involved in 9/11! Wow, my bad--we received incorrect information."

"We're not torturing anyone. Okay, we did, but it was just a couple of personnel. And waterboarding isn't torture, despite what the Geneva convention & the rest of the world thinks."

/I can't post any more examples. I die a little inside each time I do.

This just annoys the hell out of me. You're a presidential candidate using energy policy as one of your platforms. How hard is it to check your goddamn facts before giving a speech?

So, among economics, computers, major Iraqi factions, and who's being trained in Iran, we can add "major events 60 miles off our shores" to the list of stuff he doesn't know about.

This of course, is taking the stance that the gaffe was unintentional & not just a lame scare-tactic attempt. (Oh noes! The Chinese & Cubans are drilling right in our own backyard! China's responsible for your $4/gallon! Vote for me & I'll fix everything!)

Cheney: Experience means I get to make shiat up to sell my farked up agenda.

bartink 2008-06-13 05:24:04 AM
From the previous thread:

bartink: bsdbigot: Uh-huh... so, we have one politician saying one thing, and one politician saying the opposite... neither of them with any evidence other than hearsay to support their position.

The only remarkable thing, here, is that they are ostensibly both Republicans.

I think it's funny that the Democrat blogger gives any credence to Mel Martinez' maps and reports; Bush's lackeys had all sorts of maps and reports in the run-up to invading Iraq.

To be fair, one of them is Cheney, who seems to be wrong about any specific threat he blabs about.

And now you see the wisdom of assuming that Cheney is full of shiat when trying to scare us.

If you judge people's future predictions by their past predictions you get a good idea of their credibility.

For example, every prediction McCain has made in relation to Iraq.

And McCain said the same shiat they all did in the run=up and immediate aftermath. You know, it will be easy, we will be greeted as liberators, etc. He even touted the importance of the occupation lasting years and not decades, since the Iraqi's won't like us being there for a long period of time.

What a difference running for president makes.

But I did not say that now did I. Make sure you support my balls when you do that thing I like. And hum the Star Spangle Banner.

He cited his source as columnist George Will, who last week wrote: "Drilling is under way 60 miles off Florida. The drilling is being done by China, in cooperation with Cuba,

But talk of China drilling in waters within 50 miles to 60 miles of Key West has been a common theme among Republicans.

"China, thanks to a lease issued by Cuba, is drilling for oil just 50 miles from Florida's coast," Rep. George Radanovich, R-Calif.,

House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio, calling for more domestic oil production, declared, "right at this moment some 60 miles or less off the coast of Key West, Fla., China has the green light to drill for oil."

"Even China recognizes that oil and natural gas is readily available off our shores, thanks to Fidel Castro," complained Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri, a leader of a GOP energy task force.

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

Is this the same Dick Cheney that ran Halliburton (President and CEO of the company) in the 1990s to stagnation...

i301.photobucket.com

...and then, when the Iraq War started, Halliburton got all those no-bid contracts and this happened...

i301.photobucket.com

...you mean THAT Dick Cheney?

And now he's lying that the Chinese are drilling 60 miles off the coast of Florida so we should too?

The ex-CEO and President of a company that provides technical products and services for oil exploration? A company that profited from a war, started by lies, in a country with untapped oil reserves ...is lying again about oil?

Seriously: I can only assume the only people vocally defending this Administration are either on the payroll, or the dumbest farks I could ever meet.

I've said it before... either they are a pack of liars or so grossly incompetent that they are constantly wrong about just about everything... take your pick, at this point.

Either way the Bush administration is the largest collection of liars or corrupt incompetents this country has seen in a long time.

Quite the legacy...

So China is not drilling off shore of Cuba, but is exploring on Cuba. Six other companies have received leases for the possibility to drill off the coast of Cuba. They probably will be drilling there soon enough.
So to all those that say drilling isn't the answer, what exactly is the answer then? Bonus question: Will you be complaining when gasoline is over $10/gal?

This is so true. I would like it if people would stop acting like we are the only things not supposed to be on earth, as if we are a plague. So we move stuff around, build streets, buildings, factories, and create products. These creations make other peoples lives better. If you don't own the land, then shut up about it, let free people do what they want with it. There will always be areas untouched by man. If you like it so much go visit, if you like it a lot, you may even want to live there, but then you would be disturbing the true nature. In 100 million years it won't matter.

It's a decent argument, though. We should be using all domestic sources of oil. Banning off shore drilling is stupid. Even banning drilling in ANWR is dumb, provided it can be done in an enviromentally safe manner.

Now, it is correct that additional drilling alone won't solve the problem. But it will help, and it's dumb for us to not be doing.

And, no, we aren't not drilling in these areas to save the oil for later. We aren't drilling because off shore oil rigs are ugly. That's it. The ban isn't even to protect the enviroment. It's just because they are ugly, and that's simply a retarded reason.
