"No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

You forgot this.

He's right. A lot of the old Testament laws are ignored by most of us. The whole "lying down with a man is an abomination" is forthrightly held out as "god's law," but it's uttered by people wearing clothing of mixed fibers (also an abomination).

I love this man. How recent was this speach? Where was it? Is there a video of the whole thing without the time lapses? Gods I hope that he sticks to this if it comes out to the MSM.

Are you sure about that? Offending religious types isn't exactly the best way to win elections in America ya know.

What are the Religious types going to do? Denounce their own bible?

"folks haven't been reading their bible"

no shiat. but it does make for fun debates with so called christians who are blathering about stuff that the bible directly contradicts.

the ones that would be offended by pointing out what is written in leviticus are the ones that have never read the book. they're the ones that claim the book of revelation tells us this or that about the antichrist. they are the ones that don't understand what jesus calls the great commandments that supersede all others, that you should love god, and love your neighbors as yourself.

kinda sad.

I'm gonna have a threesome with him and Scarlett Johannsen. I think that's the prize at the DNC convention raffle this year, and I've got my tickets.

It sounds like his Call to Renewal (new window) speech from a couple of years ago.

I've never been able to find complete video.

I usually don't give a damn about redlights, but I must admit this one saddens me a bit.
It's a speech with an important point, whether delivered by Obama or not.

unlikely [TotalFark] 2008-06-13 10:15:12 AM
He's right. It does say those things.

Other abominations:
Cheeseburgers
Your poly/cotton shirt (Okay, be fair - polyester should be all on its own)
French Toast

Other serious no-nos:
Not letting strangers stay at your house
Not paying your employees every day before sundown
Not paying your GF's dad 40 silver coins if you're her first

Other things that are okay:
Multiple wives
Killing your own kids if they misbehave

The salad bar way modern christians choose what elements of their holy book they're going to follow is really kind of an exercise in madness.

With each passing day I love Barack Obama more.

If his Presidency is as good as it seems like it will be with him, can we agree to let him have a third or fourth term if he wants it?

willicus 2008-06-13 01:42:40 PM
unlikely: Your poly/cotton shirt (Okay, be fair - polyester should be all on its own)

Actually, the bible only bans wearing clothing that has linen and wool mixed. Poly/cotton is okay.

...Well, it's okay biblically, at least.

We've already done that. Barack is the reincarnation of Lincoln, and since he is the reincarnation of FDR and George Washington as well. When automatons do the "Barack Hussein Obama" thing, I tell them "Barack Delano Obama".

That's not lucidly. That's ignorantly. Forget the farking Old Testament. You won't read anything like that in the New Testament, and that's the message that applies to us today.

Did he mention that he not only believes in abortion, but believes that there should be live birth abortion? I'm not an abortion whacko, but his statements on live birth abortion are going to cost him the election.

And you know who else was in favor of live birth abortion?

Mr. 'Uniter', Mr. 'Im gonna bring us together as a Nation',

Yeah, agreed. Right-wingers will chop this speech up into little bitty soundbites to make Obama seem like the anti-Christ, regardless of how well-intentioned and accurate his speech is.

But on the other hand, I know plenty of reasonable religious folks who have been really tired of the extremists hijacking their Bible and religion and making them look like fools by association. This is excatly the sort of candidate they want.

Scary how insightful and concise his words are. Bush has dumbed down politics and has set the bar so damn low for public speaking, I think people look at Obama as pure farking genius when in reality he's just slightly above or equal to the political pack. Thank Bush for his utter failure to propel a Black man in a white nation to potentially hold the most powerful position this nation has to offer.

Maybe without Bush Jr. there could be no future President Obama
