(The Sun) Dumbass Pete Doherty pulls a John Lennon-sized ego move and commissions a pretentious sculpture of himself nailed to a cross for his forthcoming shows. We get it Pete, you feel crucified by the press. But by all means, keep digging   (thesun.co.uk) divider line 20

This junkie isn't even talented. Thank you NME and Pitchfork for making this scumbag popular. Libertines sucked, and so has everything since.

You mentioned Pete Doherty in the same sentence as John Lennon.

Congrats.

+1 if it's Cornell, +2 if it's Cash.

This guy is the immediate retort when some hipster tries to tell you that the British always have better music than the Americans.

/Can't stand him now.

Pete who?

Not that I think Pete Doherty is any good, but the Sun whinging about how he's comparing himself to Jesus is silly. Jesus wasn't the first or last person to be crucified, by a long shot.

I love the Libertines. Go farking party instead of whining because someone else is cooler and more talented and got to Kate Moss, who I'm sure you all would say you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole because she's so skinny and ugly and does drugs. Wahhhhh.

Call me when you put on an awesome live show

Lennon sized ego? WTF? Let me know when this clown sells a farking record, and then we can begin to compare him to Lennon.

Lennon > Jesus > Bush > The Cleaning Crew at my Office > whoever the fark this clown is.

You know who else was crucified?

You know who else John Lennon was bigger than?

CatJumpJohn 2008-06-12 05:33:18 PM
John Lennon was a great musician partially because of his ego (he couldn't stand to let anyone make better music than him, particularly when he was with the Beatles). Pete Doherty is a no-talent ass clown.

/notice that I took care to say their names in different sentences

most of his music seems to leave the studio with what I would call poor production values and that would have a huge impact on how most people would look at the "quality" of it.

In terms of song writing, I find it to be excellent and I think that if the production quality was a bit higher the music would simply be phenomenal.

Another important thing to note is that his music is "very english". I don't really know how to qualify that statement, but I find there to be a style of popular music over there with a quality that just doesn't translate into success in North America.

He's certainly no John Lennon but he's an excellent artist in my books. Imagine if Jimi Hendrix were alive today in the UK...he would be a tabloids wet dream, just like Pete seems to be. However we really tend to remember him as a skilled guitarist instead of a drug farked, woman bashing idiot.
