(Google) Video There's more soul in one of Al Green's woooo's than in every single piece of hipster dreck you've listened to for the past five years. Here's undeniable, testifiable proof   (video.google.com) divider line 30

I always wanted to go to his church, live close to it, but I'm not sitting on a wooden bench for 3+ hours. They pass the collection plate 3 times too. And I'm pretty sure you'll get looks if you try to leave early.

Has anyone ever argued differently?

I just got tickets to see him in September with my girlfriend. I can't wait, and his new album is one of the sexiest things around.

Something tells me you don't do a lot of sitting in Rev. Al's church when he's feelin' it.

Amen, brother. There's nobody quite like the Reverend.

I took my mom to see him a few years ago. AgentOrangeDrink, be warned. The show was really short, maybe an hour total. A lot of people were pissed off. However, he was on fire the entire time. I've seen few performers give as much to their audience, even if their shows were several times longer. We left happy.

well sure, but how's his figure four?

This was the case when I saw him a decade ago. His band had no idea what he was gonna do, when songs were gona stop and start. The band came out for the encore... played for 10 minutes looking stage right... and the good rev never came out! Show over!

Still was one of the best shows I have ever seen. My Al Green records are among my prized possessions... I might very well still be a virgin without them. That man could sing the panties off a nun wearing a spacesuit.

Dude thanks that clip was so awesome. He plays guitar like Hendrix/Curtis also...

The most appropriately titled song evar.

Damn, the Queen Latifah version, which features Al Green, is pretty sweet too. Except when she talks in the middle. That was stupid.

This is also a fantastic song:

Al Green and Lyle Lovett

The Dynamite Monkey: That man could sing the panties off a nun wearing a spacesuit.

I know what I'm going to be for Halloween this year.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, you stumbled into the wrong thread. This is well-deserved boasting.

and, dead or alive, he would deserve superlative boasting by his many fans. With Al Green, believe the hype.

Ok you dont think Al Green is as influencial as the submitter. Good to know.

To me Al Green is classic Soul. I assume you know some obscure artists that fit that mold though.

"Simply Beautiful" is probably the most appropriate title for a song ever. Al Green's one of the best.

Al Green makes you feel like he has your heart in a vice grip.

Al Green reaffirms my faith that somewhere there is a God who,
once in a while, does things to benefit his creations.

Although I have to say that the Talking Heads version of TAKE ME
TO THE RIVER is ever so slightly better than The Good Rev's original.

Millzners 2008-06-11 08:00:06 AM
Sadly he's a dying breed -- Al Green doesn't need studio magic, autotune, etc... I can't name 1 modern R&B singer today who makes a song without it. Not one. Even John Legend, despite his talents, is guilty.

Crewmannumber6 2008-06-11 08:16:52 AM
Anyone else remember when he played the closing ceremonies at the Olympics in Atlanta? Love And Happiness stole the show! There were three other acts that were rotating and by the end of that song all three looked like "I gotta follow that?!?"

I'd rather see a short, brilliant performance than a long, drawn-out boring one, but thanks for the info. Plus I've waited to see Al Green my whole life, and I finally have someone I love enough to want to see him with. And either way, she'll practically rape me afterwards, which I doubt happened with your mom unless you live in Alabama.

AgentOrangeDrink: And either way, she'll practically rape me afterwards, which I doubt happened with your mom unless you live in Alabama.

Well, she was born in Texas, I've lived in Texas and Arkansas, and her husband at the time was from Alabama. Still, no Oedipus action here.

Enjoy the show!

Smooth. Soulful. Spiritual.

Thank you.
