This is a good thing. It'll help us all save up money to afford the astronomically high ticket prices that are sure to ensue.

I normally refuse to pay more than $35 for a single show. This I will tolerate prices in the hundreds.

Not the same as their drug fueled shows of the 60's and 70's. Just not as much rock available at their disposal.

That said, I'll be there if I can be.

I'll never brag to someone older than me that I saw led zeppelin, especially if they saw the real zep. It'll still be awesome to say I saw zeppelin because the Page/Crowes show just wasn't the same

As much as I love Zeppelin, I can only imagine their show would not be the raw power of the 1971 vintage. It would be a flabbier, turgid creaking. More like 1977 Elvis to 1958 Elvis

I dunno... if they can maintain the energy levels they appeared to display at the Ertegun tribute show, they should show themselves very well, considering all the time that's passed. I don't think its really a fair comparison beyond the obvious fact that they're 37 or 38 years older.

In the meantime, I sprung for tickets to see Plant & Krauss this weekend. Everything I've seen or read of that leads me to think it will be a good show.

As long as John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page are playing together on the same stage, I would like to see it. I could care less if Plant is involved.

Yes, it will be worth the money if you can afford it.

Yeah, I'm sure that would really kick ass with, say, Sammy Hagar singing with them instead of Robert Plant.

Sorry, but they'd have all the good rock vocalists on the planet lining up for auditions if Plant said 'no,' which is still a possibility. The big problem for them would be who to pick. Sammy wouldn't even be on the long list.

Is it wrong for me to be more upset at missing the Plant/Krauss tour than a possible Zeppelin reunion? In interviews it seems like Robert is not so into it. This from an interview from the London Times

So, here's the real scoop: the most reluctant Zep member finally says that he'd like to play together from time to time. "I don't think I said that," Plant says, looking affronted. I point out that not only did he say it, he said it only a few seconds ago, and it's on tape. "No, no, no. Somebody else inside me was saying that. Not the bloke from Wolverhampton, the bloke from the land of the ice and snow, the bloke with his shirt unbuttoned down to his waist - and he can shut up. We're not having any more of that. It was great, but I've got to go down the highway now."

I would prefer seeing new music and the old songs performed in different ways. Also as great as the reunion could be it isn't the same without Bonham.

Well, they do say old broads can teach you a thing or two, but in this case I would suggest paying $10 and catching some young 20 year olds who are trying to win you over than paying hundreds for some seniors who could care less.

barneyfifesbullet 2008-06-09 06:56:33 PM
Page didn't confirm anything not already known. Page suggested that the Led Zeppelin tour won't happen until the second half of 2009.

Page and Jones want to tour Zep. This is news? They have wanted to tour Zep, since like, 1982.

Plant won't do a tour. A few shows maybe, but no tour.

Some people never learn.

T.rex 2008-06-09 08:36:35 PM
Plant is crucial. I guess you guys never heard any material back when Page was touring with The Black Crowes... let me tell you, ... it was completely unaffecting.

Plant still has decent vocals. He's integral to the vibe of Zeppelin. don't deny it. With Page's skills diminished, if you even want to remotely SOUND like Zeppelin, you need Plant in there. got it?

As I noted earlier, I was kind of taken aback by GurneyHalleck's comments, and his follow-up did nothing to lessen that reaction. Call it the Page-Jones Band or something, and by all means enjoy it for what it would be, but without Plant it's a heck of a reach to imagine it as Led Zeppelin.

He does seem to be enjoying himself with this new gig, doesn't he? That enthusiasm has a lot to do with my looking forward to seeing the show this week, because I never would have imagined myself having anything more than a passing curiosity about the deal otherwise.

I saw the page and plant tour years back. decent show, i'm very happy i got to see them. too bad this will cost 10x more for 98% of the same. and yes, jpj is brillant but not worth the extra $$$. this isn't 1975.

if you want an old man to rock your pants off, go see neil young with crazy horse, best old dude show i've ever seen and realistically it's up there with the best shows i've ever been to.

I would have gotten tickets but my wife had back surgery scheduled last week. Stupid flat back syndrome.

They had a concert on CMT that was awesome. I love the spin they put on some of the old Zeppelin tunes.

If you check Youtube there are clips from other means. Here is some clips to whet your appetite.

Please Read the Letter. An old Robert Plant tune, I think the last minute of song when everything builds and builds is as Zeppelin-like moment as we can get now. (new window)

It's only MHO, but I have a feeling that these guys might be a little past their prime - and they are also without the band member that made them a great live act to begin with. But I also have a feeling that they might sell a few tickets, which is obviously what this is all about, right Pagey?

Asperger Jones [TotalFark] 2008-06-10 05:15:19 PM
Millzners: and yes, jpj is brillant but not worth the extra $$$. this isn't 1975.

You've never seen him live. I saw him three times in '99 and '01 in a trio with a Chapman Stick player named Nick Beggs and a drummer whose name I can't remember. JPJ played at least half a dozen instruments: bass, keyboards, mandolin, ukelele(!), some mini-guitar thing that might have been an electric mandolin, and a pedal steel on which outdid Page even in his prime - the Physical Graffiti version of "In My Time of Dying" sounds arthritic compared to some of what Jonesy was doing with the instrument. To see that sort of energy and power combined with Plant and Page's own skills and charisma would be ungodly. I'd still miss Bonzo, but from the YouTube vids I've seen from the Ertegun show, Jason could easily hold his own.

I guess what I'm saying is, barring some personal financial disaster, the sky's the limit on how much I'd spend on a ticket to see these guys perform.

NO

Reading comprehension is your friend. Here is the quote from the Telegraph article:

"It was the first time Led Zeppelin had appeared onstage since their hugely successful reunion concert in front of 22,000 fans at London's O2 centre in December.

In an interview after that concert, Page said the band were ready to reunite and perform more live events."

That concert being the O2 show. Nothing new to see here.

we have seen jason at events in town and at a game or two but he is usually away on the road.

looking forward to a tour and the dvd that follows.
