You can't help the poor, they are poor for a reason.

But, all the christian websites have a 'donate' button. That money goes to the poors.

7of7 [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 07:59:46 PM
If Christians didn't waste so much time and money to support the infrastructure necessary for worshiping the gods of ancient nomads they'd have a fark load more money and time to spend helping people.

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 08:00:14 PM
Sure..don't pay attention to Government, they are all goodness and light. They need to go build some roads or something and get out of the way of Free people. And why should anyone help the poor if the Government is going to do it? Why? What's the motivation? The Government will do it.

TheDumbBlonde [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 08:00:47 PM
It's the government's job to take care of the poor.

Curbstomp Jesus: You can't help the poor, they are poor for a reason.

Totally. When Jesus saw those lepers he told them to pick themselves up by their bootstraps and stop with all the begging. At a safe distance, I might add, since the leprosy can be catchy. He then quickly moved on since he was late for a thousand-talent fundraising dinner for his Messianic campaign.

Maybe they could start by stop giving less to the party of pedophiles, philanderers, and money lovers and giving more to somebody they knew in their community that needs help.

The Christians love to cite these studies that show how they spend more money on charity than non-Christians; but I suspect the numbers would be the other way around if you subtracted all the money that goes into their church's pocket.

Are charities somehow better? Some are very efficient, some aren't at all. It's a matter of implementation. With proper oversight, government can often deliver better than the free market.

Oh brother, that is complete and utter nonsense. Corruption is everywhere, especially in governments. Looks good on paper, total bullshiat in practice.

I was unaware that evolutionary theory accounted for artificial concepts such as inheritance of money.

Evolution is about genetics, not financial inheritance.

Plenty of graft in the free market too. How'd that energy deregulation go for California again?

I'm not religious but I've always found it interesting that "Jesus" was the most prolific liberal in history, yet his most hardcore believers tend to be largely conservative. I think there's a paradox there. Or maybe just hypocrisy, I dunno.

I bet I can name a hundred things and you can tell me why it didn't work because of greedy people. That's exactly my point. There will always be greedy people and a Government is their ideal golden kingdom.

True. However you need to remember the poor are usually less educated, some would say stupid. If there is one thing we should all know from reading Fark, it's that the stupid usually end up living longer, moving to Florida and making a name for themselves by doing something that gets them in the news.

They do help. Catholic Charities(I'm not even Catholic) helped me with some of my bills when I got in a bad spot about 4 years ago. They didn't go into a ton of questions or anything like the local food stamp office did, and just helped. No prosyletizing or anything like that. But keep lying to yourselves so you can feel good on bashing the Christians. The Jews and Muslims also do a lot for charity, but go ahead and bash them too.

Technically, "Christianity" died with Jesus or shortly after. It was never supposed to become something unto itself. Christians are prone to forget Jesus was passionately Jewish. Paulinism and Augustianism is what we have today, other than offshoot denominations such as Mormonism. With the exception of Marxism, it's the most unfortunate and misnamed eponymous movement ever.

If only Marcionism had won instead of the Catholicism, we wouldn't have to deal with the Old Testament.

Evil Per Capita in a society is a constant. The gains made in fighting poverty and racism in the past 50 years have been erased by gains in greed and anomie.

For all of you wanting to do some more bashing, if you get into financial trouble sometime in the future, contact your local welfare office, and contact your nearest Catholic charities. See who comes out to help you the fastest, and doesn't go into your life history as to whether you're deserving of help or not.

/You can judge from there on who is more bigoted and less willing to help

The "free market" has turned into a religion. Government defines the rules and boundries of any market. Capitolism is only useful to the end that it solves our problems. In places where it doesn't, there's no reason to continue pursuing "free market" solutions to them. There is no "free market" solution to poverty. I'm astonished that the fark article asserts that libertarians believe solutions to poverty are provided for by capitolism. Libertarianism admits that it just doesn't give a shiat about it.

In the market you can stop greedy activity..as some one said earlier using CA energy as an example, it did end. When the government does it, it takes a revolution to stop it. I prefer free market capitalism.

Ayn Rand is the anti-Christ. Christians should spend less time following Rand and more time actually following Christ. (Or better yet Dawkins or Sagan.)
