Abba's sort of like Journey in that there are two types of people: Those that like them genuinely and and those that like them ironically. Simplistic and poppy? Yup. Catchy? You bet.

Half past twelve
And I'm watching the late show in my flat all alone
How I hate to spend the evening on my own
Autumn winds
Blowing outside the window as I look around the room
And it makes me so depressed to see the gloom
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Can you hear the drums McCaindo?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
In the firelight McCaindo
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

They were closer now McCaindo
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
I was so afraid McCaindo
We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die
And I'm not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, McCaindo
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, McCaindo
Though I never thought that we could lose
Theres no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, McCaindo

How can you like something 'ironically?' That's completely moronic.

I can't complain. We all loved ABBA way back when. And like the rest of us, McCain was a peppy, young-hearted, die-hard sixty year old concert goer who knew how to have a ball!

Stay tuned for more hard hitting journalism as the American public prepare to elect the most powerful person in the world.

Give ABBA a break everyone.

Sure the music is pretty cheesy, but unlike much of today's corporate music and Nirvana wannabes (not that Nirvana was bad) they didn't take themselves too seriously and did a lot more with their music than just guitar, bass and drums playing the same beat and riff for 3 and a half minutes. I'll pull them up on Youtube once in a while to lighten my spirits.

Link (ABBA drummer died)

When selecting windows near doors or have windows that reach near the floor...or have glass in doors...or glass in a bathroom... make sure to order tempered glass to avoid this kind of accident ABBA's drummer died from.

blick [TotalFark] 2008-06-09 02:04:10 AM
abba was a fine group. played their own instruments, wrote their own material, and the girls could sing up a storm. they quite often performed live without the electronic crutches so many so called "artists" use today who are lipsynch divas.
oddly enough pop artists even today sample abba hits in new material.

example
abba: gimme, gimme, gimme
and
madonna: hung up

I didn't care when the clerk at Home of the Hits snickered as I purchased the German import Abba box set because it has Kisses of Fire which isn't on the American box set, so I'm sure as hell not going to care what the subby thinks.

Abba? Rules.

captain_napalm: awesome - I'll be sure to have it on my iPod when I go to his inauguration.

Argh! You have upped the ante! Now I will have to ingratiate myself by taking Agnetha Fältskog as my date. Don't worry though. Do you play an instrument? I will put one of your songs on my iPod. It's all god.

What's wrong with ABBA? I think they were great. Wait. Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Check out The Best Show on WFMU at wfmu.org and the show almost always starts with an ABBA song in the opening block.

The girls could sing and the guys could write music.

In fact they're still writing great music, though now for musical theater.

Or it just gets fun to sing along to dumb songs when drunk. That's a huge motivator.

Onanist - that movie pulled one of the biggest bait & switches I've ever seen. The beginning was silly mindless fun with Abba karaoke, and then things got brutal, fast. When Muriel's mom (spoiler!) killed herself I left the theatre. It was just too much.
