High school students in Florida are more likely to smoke marijuana than tobacco

This is probably true in most states. Weed is so ridiculously easy to get in High School.

Even in lame ass Cincinnati weed flows through high schools.

/There is no chronic like St. X chronic.

Weaver95 [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 02:36:39 PM
The difference is dramatic in Martin County where 24 percent of high school students say they've used marijuana in the past month, compared to 20 percent who used cigarettes. Martin County had a higher rate of teen tobacco and marijuana use than neighboring counties.

On the positive side for Martin County youth, the report showed they were more likely to get enough "vigorous physical activity" compared to statewide averages and neighboring counties.

So not only are they using cannabis, they're also excercising at higher rates too. If their grades are higher than the state average, then that pretty much murders the entire basis for keeping cannabis illegal all in one shot.

Based on my observations that's been the case for several decades.

As they should. When they graduate, they can gateway to a vaporizer.

WFern 2008-06-08 02:47:44 PM
I don't have a child, but if I did, I'd much rather they smoke the occasional joint in high school than turn to cigarettes. My only concern would be of a legal nature. As far as health, they don't even compare.

The_Sponge [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 02:49:02 PM
A couple of weeks ago some friends and I were smoking cigars down by the Kirkland waterfront. Out of nowhere, this fat farking brat comes up to one of my friends and says "I HAVE THREE WORDS FOR YOU.....NO...STANK....YOU."

2 things:

1) His pussy dad should have made him apologize.
2) He's going to grow up, say that to the wrong person, and get his ass kicked.

CruJones 2008-06-08 02:49:10 PM
I'm guessing it's not an either/or thing, and most of those kids smoke both. The same people who try one thing they aren't supposed to are likely to try another.

/could use some weed

Well no shiat. Short of vending machines, alcohol and cigs are generally harder to come by for a kid.

If only we could somehow pit the War on Ciggarettes against the War on Drugs. Pretty soon we'd have the government out of our lungs entirely.

As for health issues, it may not have as many chemicals but your still going to get some neat smokers lung from it.

It's still smoking.

And, I don't think more weed is being smoked, just less tobacco.

Hey kids, this is what we like to call the Law of Unintended Consequences. Nice going dumbasses!

Sadly, now they'll be whining for money to get kids off of weed. The Nanny State rides again.

Waiting patiently for it to be legalized. Because that's what's stopping me from smoking this joint here.

About 3 years ago I quit smoking cigarettes over a weekend. Went camping with some friends and took a bunch of joints, whenever I got the urge to smoke a cig, just fired up a joint instead. Worked great, haven't smoked a cigarette since.

If the price of a pack of smokes keeps goin up, will probably be almost cheaper to smoke pot.

ultraholland 2008-06-08 02:59:28 PM
Anti-smoking campaigns have lead to more kids smoking weed. Weed is a drug. Drug money funds terrorism. The anti-smoking campaign is helping fund terrorism.

Kali-yuga: the price of smokes in new york city in 2004 helped me quit, so I could save more money for tweeds. But I had to smoke joints like they were going out of style to kill the nic cravings, now I am down to a $20 a week medicinal regimen in a plastic baggie, and have been tobacco free since Nov. 2 2004. Compared to a pack a day at $8 bucks a day? Definitely saves me money. And I'm high all the time.

smoking pot FTW

moothemagiccow: Can't really understand how tobacco's still legal.

Just like any other drug, its addictive and a void filler.

I got hooked when I was young, but in my adult years only fell back on it during rough times. An excuse? Of course, but I'm being honest about it. I'm sure others feel the same way.

Second, when there is demand, there will be someone to supply. Thats why I feel the 'War on Drugs' is ignorant, just like people who feel they can rid the world of smoking forever. You can decrease the supply and thats about it.

Truth is, there will always be someone out there doing some form of drug followed by someone willing to supply.

/Happy that smoking is my only problem
//could care if weed got legalized, people will do it anyways.

TheGreatZarquon: Weaver95: Tobacco sales bring in a LOT of cash to state governments.

The problem is that it is pretty simple to grow and process cannabis at home. And with a bit of practice and some skill you can start making some damn good product. Which rather undercuts not only tobacco sales but makes it difficult to tax and regulate.

One possible solution is to 'license' growing operations. Just so long as someone has a 'grow' license and renews it every year or so, then they're legal to make, use and grow up to a certain amount for 'personal use'. anything above a predetermined limit and they become a 'business' and have to get a different license.

But cannabis legislation isn't about logic, it's about fear and propaganda. Right now, the states rake in more money by confiscating 'drug profits' than they do if cannabis was legal to make and use. Not to mention the fact that everyone in the 'war on drugs' has been brainwashed into believing that cannabis is equally dangerous as heroin or crack cocaine. Unless we can change any of that, cannabis will remain illegal.

Becuase it's a wonderful, healthy product that whitens your teeth and has never resulted in a single proven fatality. Now if you'll excuse me I need to wait in line behind some senators for my check.

You may want to look into something called "Prohibition" in the 1920s. (Hint: it didn't work then either.)

NanashiKnight 2008-06-08 03:18:46 PM
As a younger man (21), I can say that this is true. In my last few years of highschool, smoking had become very, very rare. It wasn't popular, barely anyone did it, and everyone found it gross.

Everyone did pot, though.

1) Taxes are high
1.a)Tobacco
1.a.i) Tobacco is regulated to be available by the government after it is taxed
1.a.ii) Tobacco is readily available so it is less likely to see illegal tobacco trades
1.b) Cannabis
1.b.i) Cannabis is not made readily available by the government. [Influences 1.b.ii]
1.b.ii) People just make an illegal market that is not regulated by the government and which does not enforce "vice taxes" to influence people to not participate in this activity

2) Quality - dude, cigarette tobacco is shiatty. Get a hooka and some shisha [tobacco] (being a shortened term for shisha tobacco, tobacco that is smoked out of a hooka made from glass).

/mine's brass and I smoke a rose hips blend of jurak

That's why my parents were awesome. All normal teenagers smoke pot. They insisted if my friends and I got high, we did it in the basement.

My mom also started doing beer runs for us when I was around 15.

Many a night was spent playing Mariokart and Goldeneye, and nobody got hurt.

The fact that they are smoking less of the ones that can kill you is a good thing
