"Hillary Clinton is well known, certainly she had the popular vote in this election,"

It wasn't an election, it was a primary. And the popular vote means f*ck all in a primary vote. It's all about the delegate count, a sentiment Hillary shared until she started losing it.

My Liver Hurts 2008-06-08 12:11:08 PM
Only if you discount Obama's numbers in MI and four caucus states, and include Puerto Rico, a territory that has jack sh*t to do with what happens in November.

Even if it were true, it would still be 100% meaningless.

Keep it up Feinstein. Obama's team is probably making a list of folks who say crap like this after Clinton's concession.

You know, you'd think Hillary would have been told to shut her people up if she wants those debts paid off and to get that seat in the administration she's probably been promised.

Jeebus Frist. And people wonder why I'm registered Republican?

I may not agree with my party's leaders all the time, but you'd think that after her speech yesterday endorsing Senator Obama, that they'd frippin' get over it.

It was a primary. NOT an election. It wasn't "stolen" it wasn't decided in backrooms, and Siddhartha knows it got enough airplay and scrutiny.

Folks want to back McCain for his ideas, his politics, his vision for America, fine. Do so. Drive on. But to do so out of sour grapes? That is part of what's wrong with the country now. A bunch of farking Veruca Salts all stamping their feet they WANT it NOW!

You know what Grandma said about want?

Want in one hand and shiat in the other and see which hand gets fuller first...

Except the specter of previous Splitters before her, and the sad fact that she couldn't beat Obama in the primaries, which means her "substantial" support will be cut by the partisan folks, which would only mean handing the White House to McCain for certain.

Which would mean she could run again in 2012, but she'd have Hell to pay in the Senate for that move. She might not want Obama to win this go around, so she can be seated and ready in 1012, but there's no way in heck she wants have the stench of "costing" the Democrats an election on her in the least.

baorao: I think you need money to run as an Independent.

And voters. Ross Perot got slaughtered in 1992 with 19.7 million votes. She wouldn't garner more than 25 million votes, 35 at the outside, and certainly not enough to win more than a handful of states, if any.

Running as an independent in the general election would complete the political suicide that her 2008 primary campaign began.

How many of those Hillary votes were from uncontested primaries?

bwesb 2008-06-08 05:00:56 PM
So basically Obama made the most out of every vote he got and he busted his ass to win the delegate counts. Clinton rode her last name all through what she thought was a popularity contest and expected delegates - some of them professional politicians - to follow suit?

How'd that turn out for her again?

Oh yeah, epic fail.

McCain is toast.

I heard a reporter say that the Obama camp is negotiating with the Clinton camp to offer her the VP position only on the condition that she refuses. I guess he has to to appeal to her numerous supporters. That may be unthinkable on Fark, but she has a huge base that's really smarting right now.

Conventional wisdom is you get 20 percent of the vote just by having your name on the ballot, although I guess it depends how many names there are.

I would have liked Hillary to win but...what would be the popular vote count if she had to give back 20 percent of Michigan? GoBama.

According to McCain's strategic briefing they think VA is a GOP safe state and WV is a battleground state. Their going to drown in a cesspool of their own stupidity.

Oh yes, please keep thinking that there's no way Obama can lose.

That worked so well for you in 2004.

Quick go out and find some data for me that says Obama will win the national election, don't get discouraged by the fact that such data conflicts with much more widely available data that said Clinton would have beat McCain, and that McCain will beat Obama.

Planterz 2008-06-08 05:18:38 PM
Feinstein went on to make the case for Clinton as Obama's running mate. "I think she has a movement. Trust me, from the e-mails I've been getting and people in California have been sending me, trust me, there is a movement.

Movements are always flushed.

I love how after months and months of framing Obama supporters as cult followers, her supporters are now pleased and expect to be rewarded for their cult-like behavior.

To be fair, she doesn't need any monetary benefits to vote in favor of awful national security/foreign policy moves. She's a horrible representative of the state and I really hope someone challenges her in a primary next time she's up for reelection.

Party Boy [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 05:28:57 PM
right, here's the asterisks
*(Iowa, Nevada, Washington & Maine Have Not Released Popular Vote Totals. RealClearPolitics has estimated the popular vote totals for Senator Obama and Clinton in these four states. RCP uses the WA Caucus results from February 9 in this estimate because the Caucuses on February 9 were the "official" contest recognized by the DNC to determine delegates to the Democratic convention. The estimate from these four Caucus states where there are not official popular vote numbers increases Senator Obama's popular vote margin by 110,224. This number would be about 50,000 less if the Washington primary results from February 19th were used instead of the Washington Caucus results.)

**(Senator Obama took his name off the Michigan Ballot. Uncommitted was on the ballot and received 238,168 votes as compared to 328,309 for Senator Clinton.)

/The states votes that matter™

Lawnchair 2008-06-08 05:29:39 PM
States 20-23 on a list of US states by population: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Alabama. 9 and 10 EV states.

Democratic turnout in those states? 1.5mm, 214k, 121k, 537k.

Huge differences, eh?

Because some of them had caucuses, and some had primaries. Some were before the GOP race was settled. Some were after.

That's why we have the delegate system and not a popular vote system.

If we had a popular vote system, Washington, Minnesota, and Colorado would never have had caucuses. And Obama would have still won those states, and would have won the popular vote (my guess, at least).

There are more people in Washington state than in Massachusetts. Yet, by Hillary (and DiFi's) numbers, she's counting 1.26 million votes in Mass., yet less than 32,000 votes (precinct delegates... no popular count) in Washington.

Bullshiat.

She did, but this is the US. We don't trust our democracy to popular vote, we use delegates, caucuses, superdelegates and the electoral college.

Obama clearly takes the popular vote, if you count all non-Stalinist primaries and caucuses. And he wins even if you make the most reasonable accommodation for Michigan, too.

And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day, I said fifty people a day walking in, emailin Diane Feinstein and walking out.

And friends they may think it's a movement.

Unfortunately, 50 people a day for 149 days is only 7450 votes.

Flying Lasagna Monster 2008-06-08 05:48:54 PM
Your a moron if you don't believe that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. I realize Fark is Obama Country, but facts are facts. Add up the popular vote totals for each candidate, and Hillary comes out ahead. Obama can be like Bush and scream "fuzzy math" all he wants, but that doesn't change the raw vote totals, which come out in Hillary's favor.
