Ha! Attack of the killer tomatoes!

Kyosuke [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 10:02:18 AM
The source of the tomatoes responsible for the illnesses has not been pinpointed, but health officials in Texas and New Mexico said none of them was grown in those two states.

...

Cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, tomatoes sold with the vine still attached and homegrown tomatoes are likely not the source of the outbreak, Busemeyer said.

Also not associated with the outbreak are raw Roma, red plum and round red tomatoes from Arkansas, California, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Belgium, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Israel, Netherlands and Puerto Rico, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Association.

I guess we're safe, so long as we know what the source is not.

\non-news.

This is unpossible. Everyone knows only the vile and evil murder-flesh can spread illness. This must be yet another bit of propaganda paid for by the meat industry!

Won't be long before salmonella overtakes MSG has the most commonly used food additive.

of course, not a mention of the insane meat industry practices that lead to an intestinal disease getting into tomatoes in the first place.
Why is it that nobody questions HOW salmonella and e. coli get onto vegetables?

illegal and migrant workers shiatting then picking your crops. simple as that. No shady genetic stuff on the part of tomato growers or GMO food.

I don't know about the tomatoes, but with the spinach a few months ago, the bacterium were inside the plants, not on the surface, meaning they were irrigating with untreated sewage. You can't blame THAT on the evil dark people.

How are things over at AOL these days?

mikeyb_houtex 2008-06-08 11:43:43 AM
Back in my day, we had tomatoes that leeched lead from our bowls and gave us lead poisoning and we LIKED it!

/history lesson, right?
//don't really care for raw tomatoes anyway, now I have an excellent excuse for it.

mikerccie: Subby owes Bob and Tom a dollar for this headline.

Actually, the subby and bob and tom owe mash TV writers a dollar, its a line stolen from the show about poisoning on thanksgiving uttered by GW Bailey.
Potter:"Looks like we have salmonella poisioning"
Rizzo:"Sam and Ella, who are they?"

God I watch too much TV but did you know that Adrew "Dice" Clay, George Wendt of cheers, and Patrick Swayze all had guest roles in a halloween episode?

Axe Wound 2008-06-08 01:04:43 PM
I'm beginning to think I got salmonella from the burrito at the bar two days ago, so I'm getting abdominal cramps, fever, and diarrhea out of these replies.

Because it isnt politically correct to blame illegal aliens pissing and defacating in the fields anymore. RETA and hippies cry if you do.

Guairdean 2008-06-08 02:27:40 PM
Why is this latest outbreak a surprise? We've know about the hygienic habits of the migrant workers for years. Is is surprising that lax sanitary standards are beginning to cost lives?

I went to Chipotle earlier for lunch, and they pulled their fresh salsa -_-

They had a note saying it was due to the salmonella crap and their's were safe but just because it'd be less trouble they pulled it until it's all over.

Personally they should've just had a "Eat at your own risk" sign on the stuff.

/not in Texas or New Mexico
//Ohio, we grow lots of our own tomatos

Taco Bell isn't serving tomatos... However, Pizza Hut is.

Xaxor [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 08:46:04 PM
I work at a Burger King, in Ohio, and we had to dispose of our tomatoes during lunch. Supposedly it could be a minimum of two weeks before everything is declared safe. This will be fun.

There actually IS a restaurant in Talequah, OK called Sam n' Ellas. It's a chicken place.
