Imagine all the people
leaving my spectacles alone.
It's easy if you try.

Irrelevant and Irrelevanter.

He's that dude who ruled Russia back in the 1980's.

How many Cubans does it take to wash Lennon's glasses . . .

lenfromak 2008-06-08 11:57:35 AM
Mmmmmmm - seven Cuban cigars a day. I'll take that job.

Mrbogey 2008-06-08 11:58:22 AM
I could swear I remember seeing someone online talking about Cuba and hyping how great it was because people had enough respect for the law that the glasses on Lennon's statue would go unstolen despite not being attached. I guess this myth is busted.

Everybody needs a hobby i guess.

Guarding statues is certainly better than politics.

SWOrah 2008-06-08 12:12:35 PM
Can't they just glue on the glasses or something?

mavrick45 2008-06-08 12:15:00 PM
here's another clue for you all:

the walrus was Paul

When my wife was doing grad school at Michigan State, loyal fans would surround the statue "Sparty" and camp overnight during weeks leading to the MSU v.s. U of M game. I once took a midnight walk past it from married housing and saw that guy painted in green and white at games (John Spartan?) asleep next to it. This guy was insane; I even saw him at a field hockey game dressed to the hilt in his Spartan regalia "GO GREEEEEEN!!!!!!"

+1.

Lennon was an idiot.

Yeah John, "Just stay in your beds all day and grow out your hair!" really accomplishes a lot. Dumb@ss.

My hate burns for him and his craptacular music.

There's nothing wrong with utilizing your fame and success to spread a positive (if not overly idealistic) message.

My god, you guys are cynical.

Mrbogey 2008-06-08 03:42:45 PM
Relax. Lennon was musically a genius with some of the songs he came up with. But genius in one field doesn't mean genius in another. Lennon is proof of that.

Looking to him for wisdom is the same as looking to a Master Plumber for sage political advice.

Gothmolly: in a dead country based on hippie ideology

Since when do hippies welcome totalitarianism?

Why the hate all of the time? From my experiences, the hippies I know like to overly relax and are happy not owning so much crap. So what if they don't change their clothes every day? They're happy existing. I'd rather beleaguer type-A assholes who cut people off in traffic and insist that the whole world work 70 hours a week, then work another 10 keeping a perfect lawn.

Give me hippies any day. I'll take a slightly sloppier world any day versus a world full of uptight and neat assholes.

You don't have to build your own cars to know there are better cars out there than the Yugo. Lennon's music was, effectively crap compared to many of his contemporaries.

"All you need is love"

"I am the Walrus"

Let's see "love keep food in your stomach.

And what the hell was all that Walrus crap all about?

/What a dumb@ss hippie.
//And the Beatles sucked
///Let me guess...you own a Macintosh?

Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper are fantastic albums IMO. Not a bad successive run from '65-'67...three of the top 10 or 20 critically acclaimed albums in history right there.

Poke fun at I am the Walrus all you want to (just a kooky acid song, koo-koo-ka-choo).

Songs like In My Life, Nowhere Man, Tomorrow Never Knows, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite, A Day in the Life, etc., are all excellent, if not monumental, IMO.

By no means am I saying you should like or dislike any particular work of art, of course. Carry on.

Gee, I thought that musical taste was subjective.

Let's see "love keep food in your stomach.

He was eating ok. Til some guy blew his brains out. And he wrote half of what is, arguably, the most successful and widely distributed musical catalogue in the world.

Not really, I just hate things that are taken as gospel, when in fact, they are far from the truth.

Besides, if sales were the only yardstick of talent, then I think Britney Spears must be a well of musical greatenss.

/I still think the Beatles suck
//Feel free to disagree
///Still hate Lennon

Pissing and moaning about a band that found purchase with hundreds of millions of people and made cultural benchmarks for a decade is like complaining about grass. Just pave your lawn and paint it whatever colour grabs your fancy.

Thanks, Captian Obvious.

Why even bother stating something so obvious? I mean, really? No shiat, Sherlock.

Heh. You mention "in fact" that The Beatles are inferior, then deride him with "Captain Obvious" and "No shiat, Sherlock" when somebody brings up the axiom that musical taste is subjective.

I apologize for overestimating you.

I would like to thank you for outing yourself as an insufferably ridiculous wankstain with nothing to offer a dialogue but something equal to missing the bowl when you piss.

You have been culled from the herd.

Eh, losing the audience of a Beatles fan is no loss to me. Have fun with your Mac, loser.
