Some of those make me feel guilty for having a chuckle.

The happy little Lego-people grins in some of those are hysterically surreal.

ThisIsNotSubtle: The happy little Lego-people grins in some of those are hysterically surreal.

Especially on the violent ones. This guy's take on the John Filo Kent State shooting picture ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_state_shooting ) would be utterly bizzare.

I too love that one.

Such a horrible moment captured....damned tragedy

Couldn't the think link have gone to the regular flickr page (new window)regular flickr page, instead of a farking slide show with auto-advance?

That was fun. The slideshow aspect was a bit of a pain, but I got over it.
The burning monk was definitely a winner, but they were all worth a smile.
A Lego smile even.

It's not Lego, but I made a different toy-based change to that pic a few years ago.

Well, how do you fit the handle of a bull whip up a Lego person's ass? (Or find a Lego person with a 10" cock?)

follow that link. The guy has some other great shots done in lego, especailly some cool Star Wars shots.

PedanticSimpleton 2008-06-08 07:14:41 AM
Is it just me or does anyone else feel that doing something in Lego is becoming / has become a cliche and overdone pop culture spin?

JFK Assassination... IN LEGO!
Genocide... IN LEGO!
Paris Hilton crotch shot... IN LEGO!

Amazing artistic vision. Deep. Moving. wtf.

I mean, c'mon.

/grew up on Lego
//Want to know what's deep? Massive Blacktron(original ones of course) campaign of extermination of the M-trons because they looked weird.

Cervetus: I feel like an utter rube, but I recognized very few of those. What are the original pictures?

It might just be that I'm sleepy, but I also had difficulty recognizing the original photos. The smiles themselves in most of those scenes just unnerved me.

/I had never realized how important facial expression was to recognizability before

Happen to have a larger version of that, or a link to one?

The widescreen steel girder one is by far my favorite.

Dude did a great job.

Here's a useful link:

This news article shows the same photos, but also includes the originals for comparison.

edit to my last post: It only does this with 5 of the photos, but that's still more than some people will get :)

Cervetus: I feel like an utter rube, but I recognized very few of those. What are the original pictures?

Try clicking the info button in the middle of the frame. All pics carry a link to the original which can be opened in a new window.

Actually...

"He did two films about Iwo Jima back to back and there was not one black soldier in both of those films," Lee told reporters at Cannes.

oryx 2008-06-08 08:40:20 AM
Wonderful. Now if I only knew what the original photos were. I guess its for photo buffs only.

fatbear 2008-06-08 09:03:33 AM
Go to the original flikr page (link above.)

Click on each lego photo.

The author kindly includes a link to each original photo, for those who don't recognize them all.

Cervetus: I feel like an utter rube, but I recognized very few of those. What are the original pictures?

Agreed. I recognize a couple from Fark chiches, a few from their iconic nature, and a couple from a "clapping for credits" course, but all-in-all, I only got about half of them. A side-by-side would have been beneficial.

The link to see the photos NOT in a slide show is this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/balakov/sets/72157602602191858/

It looks like on the flickr page for each image that there's a link to the original for each photo. I recognized some of the photos but they seem to be UK-centric (not that that's a problem). The tennis girl photo seems to be roughly the equivalent of the US Farrah Fawcett poster from the 1970s.

Hmmm. Incomplete list without the N.O. Heineken beer looter.

Nice touch with the Imperial logo studs on the end of the tank barrels in the Tiannamen Square pic.

bbcard1 2008-06-08 09:28:27 AM
I am an acquaintance of the photographer who took the bobbie/streaker picture. He's worked in the US as a commercial photographer for a few years now.

"Entirely" has to be one of the biggest exaggerations one can make from these. Shame on you submitter.

skinink 2008-06-08 09:30:42 AM
Guys, mouse over the pictures in the slideshow and an info button will appear. Click on the info button, and it'll show you the link to all the original pics (plus on the lower left corner of the screen, there's a pause button). But yea, the Flickr navigation isn't too good.
