I've been trying to picture what congress is like between John and Cindy McCain. It just seems to be so awkward.

I don't think this story is going anywhere. She's not bitter, she has free medical care for life, she understands that her husband wanted hot p*ssy when he came back from captivity (??), etc.

Tragic, yes. A bit sleezy for McCain, certainly, but too many years ago to matter.

She is a rich woman and is not unattractive, and it seems like their relationship is tailor-made for infidelity (especially with his temper). He can't really use his arms and his stamina is probably below average. I just can't imagine him bringing her to orgasm unless she is on top. I just wonder if she has affairs. She has that "I've had an affair" aura about her.

The only thing that is remarkable about this story is that a Republican Candidate actually went to Vietnam and served in combat.

The fact that A Republican Husband abandoned his wife who was broken by medical issues is a standard story.

I wonder what thrice-divorced drug addicted sex-tourist and authority on family values Rush Limbaugh has to say about this...or is he still pledging to oppose McCain?

I just can't keep up with these staunch "values voter" types.

After reading the story, this whole thing basically comes down to:

What would the average guy do, if stuck in a sexual unsatisfying marriage:
A. Leave their wife.
B. Cheat on their wife.
C. Accept the reality that you will not be getting sex and deal with it.

McCain did the right thing as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, the right thing cheat on your crippled wife for years.
Get a divorce and marry another woman in one month times.
A wife who told people hid her condition from her husband who was a P.O.W because she rightfully believe "Had other things on his mind."

Some people made a vow for "Better or Worse"
Perhaps they believe "Ill act worse, until it gets better"
I don't know. What was his position on Clinton's affair?

Do I care that McCain cheated on his crippled first wife? Not really. None of my business.

As long as he didn't complain about anyone else's personal business.

Sexual congress or the Kind of Congress that contained Paul Tsongas?

I'd say the smear campaign begins, but it already got started weeks ago. McCain was a darling for the liberal media for years because he spoke out against some policies of the Bush administration but now McCain is discovering that same media is ready to burn him at the stake along with Bush every chance they get.

Such is what happens when you stand in the way of the glorious leftist agenda and the darling of the liberal media: Barack Obama.

I've been thinking about this a lot. I've decided it probably sounds like this:

John: Grrrr! GRRRRRR! HNGGGHHHHHHH! GRRRRRRR!
John: GRRRR!
John: UNNNNNNNGGGGGGG!

And lots of clenched jaw, stiff, robotic movements, that sort of thing. And when he's done, he laughs with that creepy smile and laugh from his "That's not change we can believe in" speech.

True. McCain got a free pass for many years because he's a fun guy when he's off the record and reporters liked him. Now that he's mounting a major campaign, these reporters are finally doing their duty and scrutinizing his record, and people are surprised at the unethical, double-talking bullshiat they're finding coming out of the "Straight-Talk Express."

Not that it should be a big surprise, given Keating Five and all. But the public have a short memory.

Am I reading this right? The first wife was married and had two kids, then dumped her husband for Johnny Mac? For some reason, knowing he would flirt so with another man's wife bothers me more than the dumping her when she got fat part.

Also, it sounds like they were swingers, as that was the style of the time. Ewwwwwww.

The article mentions that he cheated on his wife. I've heard different accounts of how this went down... Ive heard A) he cheated on his wife while playing like everything was OK and I've heard B) he cheated on his wife, after they agreed to seperate, but before the divorce was finalized.

None-the-less, I'm not going to judge this guy on this issue. IMHO, we didn't go through what he did and we cannot say for certain that we would of handled things differently, if we had been in those circumstances...

Abzzstain: And don't forget that McCain also cheated on Cindy with that hot telecom lobbyist, Vicki Iseman. Who had business before the committee he chaired.

To my knowledge, there's no evidence that he was sexually or romantically involved with her. The Times article appropriately detailed that his personal relationship with her may've been, from an ethical standpoint, inappropriate because of her business as a lobbyist, but it is wrong to assume or imply that he cheated on his wife.

That's for he and his wife to decide, and isn't any of our business. It is, however, relevant insofar as his policies themselves invade the personal space of private citizens, notably his opposition to gay marriage. Because, you know, it's the job of the State to tell people whether or not they love each other.

Is this the same liberal media that ignored every event in the world for weeks while they spoke of nothing but Reverend Wright's 20 seconds of reprehensible words (while ignoring the other 38 years of his career as a minister and his years of military service)?

Is this tha same liberal media that spent a fraction of the time and resources (compared to their obsession with Wright) on covering two of the most influential "reverends" in American history when they told the nation that fellow Americans were responsible for 9-11 because they pissed off (a remarkably thin-skinned) God with their behavior?

The same liberal media that acted as uncritical stenographers between 9-11 and Katrina and reported Bushco's BS as fact, thus enabling the unnecessary death and disability of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis?

THAT "liberal" media?

McCain is going to get Swift Boated at some point (despite likely efforts by Obama to fight it). How he reacts to this could determine the outcome of this election. McCain has a well-known anger problem, and he could completely snap if people are willing to be as awful to him as they were to John Kerry.

Oh please.

McCain has an SOP for all bad news stories about himself, because they're all very similar.

First, he does some dumbass thing most commonly at the prompting of some right wing lobbyist. (Some variant of this is necessary for the dump-the-frump-and-marry-the-hump issue.)

Second, he gets called out on it eventually.

Third, he admits openly and candidly (more or less) what he did was stupid and short-sighted and against what he says he stands for all the time. And in the future he has a policy that will prevent it from ever happening again. (The policy itself is usually pretty broad and makes people say, "Wow, he's a leader on subject X!" whether he'll enforce it or not...)

Fourth, someone in the press points out that he's a "maverick" for "breaking" with his party on the issue.

Fifth, rinse, repeat.

He does not really get Swift-boated, he has discovered how to spin his routine, idiotic missteps into one of a long series of come-to-Jesus moments when he can preach against the evil thing he once did in a fit of absent-mindedness, and shalt never do again.

It's the freakin' Barbara Walters Confessional Strategy.

He's not running for "average guy" is he? I thought he was running for a job where the Oath of Office (new window) is, shall we say, rather important.

But as long as "not getting enough" is a good enough excuse for bailing on that whole "in sickness or in health" oath to another human being who apparently waited quite faithfully for years, hey, OK, then.

Ted Kennedy's Brain Tumor: Generally speaking, hasn't McCain always been low key when it comes to burning the heathens at the stake? At least in comparison to the rest of his party?

Yes. That is one part of the "old" (or shall I say, the "earlier") McCain that I long admired. But there were many other things about the (let's say) "former" McCain that I admired very much. I was hoping for a Gore vs. McCain contest in 2000 - it would have been tough to choose, but I would have been happy however it turned out.

But McCain 2000 morphed into Pancakes. He made a bold stance against "agents of intolerance," then later kissed their asses. He claimed that tax breaks for the wealthy were contrary to his conscience (I believe he said that they "offended" his conscience), then later voted to extend them. He was adamantly against torturing captives, then later supported it...etc.

He is not the admirable guy he used to be, but, yes, he is far from the worst of the GOP. Unfortunately, he is no longer the best of the GOP, and who knows how often and willingly he will abandon and flip-flop on his "core" principles in the coming months.

"Too many years ago". Are you serious? So much for that whole 'til death do us part' thing.. you know- sanctity of marriage and all? That thing Republicans seems to think is so critical they can't let gays have it? Yea, that.
