Don't forget the vanity domain names where their parents post electronic baby books. Blech.

I get issued business cards 500 at a time, I have never managed to use all of them before my title changes or my office changes or some crud. As a programmer in a back cubefarm, not too surprising.

I use the expired ones for scratch paper.

The current ones I occasionally enter drawings for free lunches, otherwise I take a bundle when I go on vacation so I can pin them up to maps of the world like everyone else who stays at the youth hostels.

I didn't RTFA, but I made up some cards for myself and my son. Whenever I meet moms at toddler classes or other activities in town, we sometimes want to get together for play dates and field trips. When you've got a squirmy, running toddler, how else are you going to give another person you contact info? I whip out my card with my email address, phone number, address, and directions to my house. I've gotten lots of complements from other moms on my cards and some have started doing it too.

Even in my predominantly white middle-class elementary school, any kid that weird absolutely got his ass beat on the playground. The kid that came to fourth grade every day with a little tailored suit and mini-briefcase for his papers never had a peaceful day. Why do parents do these things to their kids?

Here's my card, meet me at the sandbox.

I used to make my own business cards on my computer and my son (8 at the time) wanted some. His occupation was "Kid".

"Giving children business cards is totally unnecessary," he said. "There is nothing they could possibly gain. It's just a silly gimmick."

Had the author read his last paragraph before submission to his editor, he most likely would not have bothered. Though he does seem to have a passive editor.

"Alison Piro sells the kids' cards on-line - priced at $50 for 50 - and said sad parents across the country had been snapping them up."

There- fixed for ya!

///I really read it that way at first, and it does sound better

bighairyguy: I used to make my own business cards on my computer and my son (8 at the time) wanted some. His occupation was "Kid".

I also make my own cards. But they're not business cards, as I'm currently unemployed. My cards are personal cards or calling cards. No, not the ones with cheap minutes to Mexico. The Victorian kind of calling cards. Some people think they're booty-calling cards, since they just have my title, name, and phone number on them surrounded by a knot-work-esque border. The last young lady I gave one to hasn't called me yet, but I did get her number as well.

Great, strangeguitar, now I got the "Do you like Huey Lewis & the News?" scene in my head but remade with toddlers. And I didn't think that scene could get any more twisted.

Beats buying shoes for kids who can't walk yet.

Parents get mini versions of things they use every day for their babies because it's cute. Somebody page Romero.

$50 for 50 cards? They're getting ripped off.

I work at a print shop, so I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

I keep a few personal business cards on me. These ones are pre-printed with my contact info and name, along with the variety of work I do. The front of the card looks like an old Fortran punch card (I have a computer science background).

When I am cutting down folio of nice cardstock, I keep the ends and trim them down to business card size, and carry some around with me. These blank cards are great for writing down ideas and to-do's that pop into my head. They're also great for writing a personal calling card or info card for someone I meet.

In Japan I believe they are called 'Introductory cards'

I remember at some Walgreens or Woolworths? They had a business card maker machine in the corner next to the vacuum tube testers.

for like $5 you could get 20 business cards.

Bathia_Mapes [TotalFark] 2008-06-08 01:27:11 AM
This would be cool only if it involved a bunch of 2-year olds, all wearing Armani suits, sitting around a table trying to one-up each other with their business cards ala "American Psycho". Any other scenario would be ridiculous.

AP was one of the best book-movie adaptations I've ever seen

maybe the best

Vonnegut's "Mother Night" was spot-on too

$1 EACH?

Are soccer moms too dumb to open the yellow pages and find a place to get full-color business cards for a tenth of that price?

/never mind

Someone should track down these parents and have them sterilized,so they can't breed anymore stupid farks.

/and take the kids somewhere to undo the crap the parents have brought upon them.
