For the no or low information voter, the average American who doesn't know much about John McCain, this introduction tells them two things: John McCain was a POW, and John McCain hates war.

And for us, who have known John McCain all along, it tell us that, as expected, the only way John McCain thinks he can win is if he sounds like a Democrat.

It's why McCain will win. It's not about Democrat partisans, but the apolitical masses, many of whom have a natural aversion to Obama because of his race and name. Clinton did all the work dismantling him. This election will be a cinch for the Republicans.

I never got that. By now, even ardent Military folk should have seen through the Republicans. Bill Maher had it right when he said it was like battered wife syndrome.

She did, didn't she? He's got too many pieces out there, and when they start to all add up its aces for the GOP this election cycle.

I'm not so sure about that. I think Obama could win this race, especially if he can make his case that McCain is a Bush clone. Last week I heard McCain actually favorably quote chairman Mao (he of communist china fame) in defense of his policy decisions. The Republicans have a weak candidate who could easily end up taking the fall for 8 years of Bush screw ups.

Will it work out that way? I don't know. But it could, and that's what's got McCain breaking out in night sweats.

The board is set, the pieces are in place. we're just waiting for the game to begin.

Again - that's a pipe dream. Obama has fought one hell of a tough primary campaign. He's up against a tired old white guy who seems determined to repeat the mistakes of the last 8 years. He's young, well funded and has some very motivated people backing him and his message. Added bonus - he can give one hell of a speech.

I don't agree with his politics but I do recognize and respect his ability to organize and run an effective national campaign. And he's up against a very weak opponent who's cruised thru the nomination process. the odds do not favor the Hon. Senator John McCain.

Which I guess means you never bothered to read the linked article. You haven't taken the time to verify if what was said is true or if John McCain is lying. You have no interest in seeing is there is something said there that is either true or a lie, you will just ignore whatever is there because it suits your world view.

I guess you are part of that "apolitical masses" Suicidal Writer was talking about.

You don't know anything, you're too lazy to look up anything, you will work to remain willfully ignorant but you feel as though you have a right to an opinion.

Uh, the link is just to the text and video of McCain's actual ad. I guess his ad must be inaccurate and biased against him. It wouldn't surprise me given how much he contradicts himself on a daily basis.

Also, he looks like Popeye.

LocalCynic 2008-06-07 08:31:25 PM
This has to be the dumbest, most intellectually dishonest campaign strategy ever. I have no idea how John McCain is going to have any credibility in trying to argue that the "100 years in Iraq" comment is out of context and misinterpreted, when he's running ads designed to appeal to anti-war voters.

No doubt when people argue that this ad is misleading, he's going to play the "it doesn't say that" game. Yes, we get it. The ad doesn't say that he's opposed to the Iraq war. It also doesn't say that he wants to win in Iraq. Checkmate.

Well he's deluded to think we won't be fighting for that entire time. McCain enters the White House on a unicorn that shiats rainbow-colored kittens, and all of a sudden the Iraqis lay down their arms and start rebuilding, all the while thanking us for putting them in that situation. That's exactly what's going to happen.

Obama might not win, but you're couching the hypothetical loss in odd terms. He'd take the fall for Bush? I don't see how.

People might not be convinced that they want the change he's promising, or might think that he can't pull it off (or, as 3_Butt_Cheeks thinks, that it'll cost more than he says it will), but I don't see how anyone would blame him for the last eight years.
