Way to go Al!

Franken and Pallmeyer are impressive candidates. Blue state seats should be a cinch for Democrats to win, but it would be nice to see the DFL candidate get the nod in Minnesota.

Surprisingly, he is solid all major issues. I can't find his stance on gun control though. Hopefully the Democrat Party has abandoned the plot to make gun control a federal issue.

I voted for him! I love you Stewart!!! I mean, Al!

Least funny `comedian' this side of Margret Cho. Also, he's a dick. Damn Minnesota sure elects weird people to office, don't they now.

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2008-06-07 04:17:37 PM
I never thought he was all that funny. but I listened to him when Air America first started up and when he spoke to the issues I could tell his heart was in the right place. The passion he has reminds me of Wellstone.

I'm sorry, because his comedy and being a "dick" matters? He knows what he's doing. You do better.

Whenever I had to drive my mother somewhere in Florida, she insisted on listening to Air America, so I tried to arrange things so Al Franken would be on, since he was the only one on that gawdawful atrocity I could stand.

I can't argue with people's taste in humor, but I would imagine that you can find a pretty large number of comics whose funniness lies between his and zero, where zero is infinitely larger than Margaret Cho's. ;~)

spidermann [TotalFark] 2008-06-07 04:26:41 PM
Comedy and politics are two different things.

Otherwise Robin Williams would have been president a long time ago.

Forget his comedy and argue on his political standpoints. Bringing up comedy from the past is like bringing up that Arnold smoked dope. Who gives a crap and it doesn't affect his politics one bit.

Then what exactly is he running on? His entire career has been in comedy and writing, is there something else he's done?

Why don't you take the time and find out what he is running on?

If only there was some site, some place, where you could find that information...

oh, yes, here (new window) it is.

Educate yourself before you educate the world.

You don't even live in MN. How's about you mind your own business and let us educated Minnesotans vote for who we choose.

I've liked him post official comedic years... I never had a chance to listen to his offbeat radio show, but I like his politically themed books and his post SNL appearances on TV/the web.

I think he will do a good job.

/Is it just me or does MN seem like an oddly cool place.

Suicidal Writer: I can't find his stance on gun control though.

He appears to be for gun control, but I'm not sure to what extent. I can't tell whether he wants to restrict them strongly or not, as his comedic bits on the matter could hardly be taken at face value and I don't see many details in serious pieces.

I like my firearms, but there can be reasonable limits. At least, as long as people allow the government to place "reasonable limits" on other constitutional rights, like free speech. If someone wants to make the Bill of Rights absolute, I'd vote for them.

Of course, I don't live in MN, so I'm not getting a kick out of these replies.

Also, I'm getting a headache from seeing SuicidalWriter not trolling in a political thread.

Mr_Juche 2008-06-07 05:10:13 PM
Great. Now there's going to be even more disengenuous outrage over his comedy stylings. Perfect.................

I've said it before on here and I will say it again: many Democrats will have a great night in November. Al Franken will NOT be one of them.

good for al. a smart, no-bullshiat kind of guy. and a good guy, too. even though he opposed the war from the start, he's done countless USO tours for the troops over there.

You have to give Al credit, he's not just talking about how to make the world better, he's going out and trying to do something about it.

Who is the last right-wing talk show host to run for anything?

Way to go Al! I thought he reached a level of greatness by shoving the words of the liars back up their own asses and by hosting a great political radio show, but this is just awesome.

Coleman is nothing but another right wing "Stepford" candidate; he doesn't stand for anything the RNC doesn't decide for him. It's really time to get rid of these guys, and force the RNC into the 21st century (or out of business entirely).

This is like one of those Olbermann threads where there is lots of name-calling but not specifics to back up the labels.

So how about it Franken haters? Got any specifics about why you either a) Don't like him or b) Think he shouldn't be in office?
