Not because the bacon is tainted, but because tainted tomatoes will reduce BLT demand. Are BLTs really that big a factor in bacon sales?

Hardly. Tomatoes are disgusting. Mainly because they are the devil's fruit, and they lie. They appear as fruit, but taste as vegetables with their semi-rotten centers full of juice resembling blood and pus just waiting to stain your taste buds.

Until tomatoes atone for their sins and are purified through steam and pulverization into either sauce, ketchup, or a beverage mixer they will never be clean for human consumption and should be avoided at all costs.

Or at least that's the excuse I make up every time someone questions me why I don't eat tomatoes other than the fact that I just don't care for their flavor. And even then I get questioned like I'm some sort of weirdo just because I don't like the taste of something other people do.

If I can't win an argument you make up against me, I'll at least confuse and befuddle you into submission.

Well that's just great! And I even posted a recepie for a BLO in the tomato thread the other day. Now what am I supposed to eat? An LO? An LOC? Wait, no cheese, I guess. Anyone hear about the "bathtub cheese" that's being made south of the border and getting smuggled/sold here? Yeah, it can contain TB. Link (new window)

Just wait, next week we'll find out that onions cause cataracts and lettuce is a leading cause of scabies...

/goes off to eat some dirt, that's still safe, right?

Those almost certainly were grown in a greenhouse. Given summer's late onset this year, I don't expect any of my tomatoes until July up here.

At the vet school, someone started a Food Friday tradition wherein all Friday lunches are pot luck for the various services.

This week, I found a bacon recipe online to make: Buttery crackers( Ritz, club, whatever) with bacon on top and brown sugar, baked for an hour at 250. NOMNOMNOM. Want more.

Tomatoes are frikkin gross. Not as bad as pickles mind you. But this still leaves bacon sammiches. Or bacon, egg and cheese, if you must water down your bacony flavor.

Cooked tomatoes, such as pasta sauce, are just fine.

I often consider those who claim eating animals is morally wrong to be really impressed with themselves; carnivorous animals eat other animals for sustenance and nobody decries that. So in essence those who say we should not be eating animals are making some big distinction between humans and other animals - that we are better, or that we are smarter - that we are fundamentally different enough so that eating animals is wrong for us and not wrong for them.

I personally am not so inflated that I draw such a big distinction. Humans may have a layer of more complicated intelligence atop everything else, but underneath that is a seething ball of evolved instincts and what I can only call animalistic reactions.

I eat animals, and I feel absolutely no moral qualms about that simple fact. Of course, I will freely admit some hypocrisy because I do not approve of the way food animals are treated, but I remain sure of, and ready to defend, the idea that simply eating an animal is not wrong.

Shishkani 2008-06-07 07:07:03 PM
P.S. I also heartily endorse eating tomatoes in their raw form. Delicious. And denounce Rife therapy.

/That is all
