I look forward to companies encouraging their employees to get CC permits.

While not official company policy, if employees are in a circumstance in which they might be robbed or killed, it would do wonders for their morale to be able to fight back if they had to.

Even if a company had to defend an employee who ventilated a robber in court, it would be worth it both in employee loyalty and motivation. Any job is a better job if you think your employer cares about you.

Teh internets have failed me, once again. I was looking for the lyrics to a UTFO song with lyrics in this vein, from around '84 or so.

Suffice it to say, had I found them, this thread would have been mine, mine, all mine!

One day MR. GOODBAR wanted a BIT OF HONEY so he took Miss HERSHY behind the POWERHOUSE OF 5TH AVENUE. He unstrapped her REESE CUPS and started feeling her MOUNDS. This turned out to be pure ALMOND JOY. His BUTTERFINGERS slipped down her MILKY WAY and she screamed OH HENRY and grabbed his NUTTY BUDDY. The results of this was a BABE RUTH.

We tell them not make any sudden moves and give (the robber) whatever they want because our employees' lives are more important than anything in our stores."

We need more managers like this one.

xj14y 2008-06-07 07:18:59 PM
I'm torn between clerks (I used to be one) fighting back during a robbery, and clerks just letting them go.

One hand: Clerks fighting back makes them a less likely target.

Other hand: Thieves are cowards, and will shoot the clerk first instead of asking. Shoot first becomes more commonplace.

If they are just after the money, in and out, give it to them. If they are trying to force you into a back room to do god knows what, fight with everything you have.

I almost hate to say this, but part of what happened on 9/11 was because no one had ever fought against a hijacker, because it always made things worse. Now we know what the potential is.

Tough call. If they are just after money and cigarettes, hand it over. If he wants you to leave the "security" of the counter, fight like hell.

I work a 7-11 and they don't allowing resisting, period. chances are you will get fired if you do..just hand them the money, i think it's viewed as a safety thing for us clerks. you can't bring guns or knives to work..I'm guessing it's more mom and pop places that would allow them though.

/still brings my .40 caliber in my car for the drive to and from work
//fl passed law saying if you have a ccw permit you can bring gun to work as long as it stays in the car (pressumedly for drive to and from work) and there's nothing the company can do about it/
///don't care what you say...I love this state.

The person who stands to lose the money should be the one to make the decision on fighting back. if it is your store, shoot the robber if you want. Employees should follow the policy. Most robbers will take the money and leave. If they start to attack you, your safety trumps any store policy.

But this place should have made the guy take all the candy corn too, that stuff is nasty.
