Boston drivers aren't allowed to talk. Period.

Seriously, who the fark pulls a U-turn from the right lane in rush hour across four lanes of traffic? I don't know their name, but their plates said they were definitely Massholes from Massholia.

If you RTFA, you will see that it is talking about T conductors and employees, not car drivers.

Why the misleading headline, subby?

And this is an interesting quote...

The ads were designed by the New York ad agency DeVito/Verdi, which vetoed one idea as too crass: "This trolley is a lot like your mother. Anyone with a couple of bucks can get a ride."

"So it's not like we're insensitive," said Ellis Verdi, president of the agency.

And if anyone ever figures out how to pull a seven-point turn on Red Line tracks, is there a question as to what kind of driver they are?

Damn, that'd be a feat. Isn't the red line completely either underground or elevated?

/I never go past Davis Square or South Station so don't ask me what's out there in the boonies

BTW, this isn't "Boston drivers", it's some butt-hurt MBTA employee's union types. The ads were on taxis here for a long time and nobody complained, hell, they were pretty funny.

Davis is only one stop away from the terminus at Alewife, so it kinda is the "boonies".

Replace the fish with The Mooninites. Bostonians will love that.

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2008-06-07 02:31:42 PM
This week, after the trolley conductors union complained to T management, the agency's top brass ordered the immediate removal of the "this conductor" ads, deeming them in poor taste.

I bet the drivers got right on their cell phones to complain.

I saw those ads yesterday and wondered how long it would take someone to complain.

MacDougall said he likes Legal Sea Foods, and cannot understand why the company and the T could not have anticipated a backlash to the ads.

"Who the hell wants to say they have a face like a fish?" he said. "I happen to like to eat fish, and I like seafood, and I like going fishing, but I don't want anybody saying that I or any of my members look like a fish."

I heard his member looks like a seamonkey.

If there is one thing that is offensive about the green line (and the red line and all other lines) it's the lack of reliable service. I wish the trolleys got around as much as my sister because then maybe I could get to where I want to be on time.

/Wait...might not have been the best way to phrase it.
//Ahhh fark it.

Larva Lump 2008-06-07 02:44:40 PM
"He is an halibut!"

Hell, if you're going to dodge the political incorrectness of calling a trolley operator a "motorman" in these Unites States by using the British "driver" you might as well have the Brit article usage in the advert. Also, there aren't any true "conductors" (no electrical remarks, please) on today's trolleys, er, Light Rail Vehicles, unless the non-operating person in the trailing car is officially called that. The folks in the trailing cars in the subway are called "guards" unless that's changed, too.

"If it isn't fresh offensive, it isn't Legal."

They shoulda used those baboons with red bums that like to display their bright red anal passages not fish. No wonder they're complaining, its way off, fish are nice.

Yes, we would. I don't know anyone that didn't find that entire thing hilarious.

subby, that was some weak Boston hating baiting.

Nowadays that could've been two seconds ago.

No 'Nemo sushi' pictures? Boston drivers'll cut you off, right?

In their ricers?

In Chinatown?

Trolling? In a fish thread?

Oh yeah, great ad campaign - insulting fish. Why not just have them plain say "Fark you!" and "Fark your mother!" and "I'm a fish - fark your fish-faced farking mother!".

And the ads weren't sponsored by the MBTA? I guess they have more class, unlike the NY MTA, which ran a series of ads for mass transit years ago featuring a clown in a car and the headline "Hey, bozo..."

I used to live in Mass. Quite honestly, one of the dumbest places I ever lived in my life. I had this Utopian hope going in, like I was going to go to where Harvard is and the seat of the Revolution and all that. Instead, I found a bunch of bad driving, chain smoking, pseudo-progressive knobs. I'm happy I'm back in Detroit. We're idiots here too, but we don't pretend to be anything else. And we can friggin' drive a car.

Boston-born and bred, here. I've travels quite a lot and even though Boston gets a bad rap, there are plenty of places where they let the kids out of the short bus and let them drive themselves. New York= I'm-a-bad-ass, I'm-first, FU, Connecticut= NYC wannabe's who don't care about shiat, New Hamster/Rhode Island= don't realize that the left lane on the highway is the PASSING lane, not the driving-not-fast-enough lane, Oregon/Washington/Idaho= slow, baked, wish-I-was-in-a-big-city-so-I'll-go-straight-on-red town, Florida= deadly, I-don't-realize-that-there-are-other-people-within-a-800-yard-radius-so-I'll-jus t-go-diagonal, no-turn-signal, fogey, pimp-wannabe, no-turn-signal, complete safety hazard, no-turn-signal, crossing 5 lanes, turn-signals-are-ILLEGAL-so-I-will-never-use-them........... looks like Boston ain't so bad since we no how to drive, even though we enjoy terrorizing the long-term tourists and suburbanites who should go back the fark to Farksborough.

Wulfhardt 2008-06-07 10:04:03 PM
So, southerners are right: Boston is full of rude simpletons who, if left alone long enough, will eventually start insulting themselves.

MasonL87 2008-06-08 12:40:35 AM
Maybe at this point we should just ban ALL advertisements from Boston, because the city clearly cannot just view them as companies' harmless way to get their name or message out.

Bad_Jew 2008-06-08 01:40:03 AM
Reppin' BU Law.... Boston haters, you're probably just too old to appreciate how amazing the city is. Sorry you've lost your youthful glory and coolness.

/Boston will find a way to go on without you.
