In other news, King's X is still around.

I hear King's X is touring with D.B. Cooper and Ned's Atomic Dustbin.

Kings X is another one of those "there are two types of people in the world" bands. See also: Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Rush.

I saw King's X at the Limelight in NYC in 1990. Alice in Chains opened for them.

Yeah, either you're a guy and like them or you're a girl and think they're "too busy." And I say this realizing that there are girls out there who dig prog rock. But they only date guys in bands.

There are two types of bands in the world. Bands that suck. Bands like Kings X.

I'm hoping to see these guys down by Detroit when they come through with Extreme this summer. Incredible band and great guys. Saw them downtown Grand Rapids, MI for free in the summer of '96 and they talked to us for a bit after the show. Gotta stop on the way home and pick up the new CD!

I wouldn't call King's X prog rock by any stretch.

At any rate, the new disk is great...go buy it.

Great band.
I've seen them 6 times and was never disappointed.

My favorite band. Very open, honest music.

I attended several of their concerts here in Houston back in the late 80's. They are one of the better local bands, and one of the most underrated bands ever.

I thought all their hardcore Christian fans disowned them when the singer came out of the closet.

King's X fans - I have a question: is the song "Legal Kill" about abortion?

I like the band a lot, and I like that song...but I always wondered what it was about and could never find out

KX rules, the new record is great, so before you slag on a band, you release 15 records that are adored by some of the biggest acts out there.

Yup. It was Ty's song and the other guys weren't big fans of it.

Yay for the band, they deserve top 20 (especially back around the mid 90s when everyone else was copying the sound they helped form), but when the band is in its 40s and 50s, you take what you can get.

King's X a musician's band. I've probably heard Paul Schaffer play their stuff on Late Night 20 times. There were a few so-so albums since their heyday but they are back to great form. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Mr. Chainsaw: So...they're boring?

Go to a King's X concert.

After said event, please try and attempt to say they are boring while being completely honest.

King's X are one of the least pretentious, hardest rocking, amazing live bands around.

I've seen them probably five or six times, and have never, ever been disappointed--from the first time I saw them in 1991 until today.

I finally got to meet and greet the guys at their last show in Raleigh, and it was as if I was talking to old friends. They are that approachable, humble, down-to-earth, and friendly.

Go tell somebody.

What he said. I've only seen them once (with the late, great Galactic Cowboys) but it was the best concert I'd been to in years. They're anything but boring. Ty's guitar work is worth the price alone (although Doug's voice still impresses in his mid 50s).

the lanatic 2008-06-07 03:57:35 AM
I'm glad they are having some chart action with their new release. I have seen a LOT of concerts over the years and for nearly two decades now, I have been telling people that the best live act I have ever seen is King's X.

I had the pleasure of seeing them 3 times and each time was a great concert experience. They are also friendly people who took time to talk with the people who paid to watch them play.

If you haven't seen or heard King's X, you should.

I saw King's X a number of times back in the day, either opening an arena show or club gigs. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

I bought Mr. Bulbous and Ogre Tones and was...underwhelmed. I had kind of written them off as being done. Is the new disc an improvement?

/prefers the Dogman/Ear Candy era

lardweasel 2008-06-07 01:01:23 PM
I had the pleasure of opening for these guys in Tucson in the late 80's. The crowd was pretty sparse, but they pulled out the stops and gave it their all and put on a hell of a show. Afterwards, they invited everyone out back by their tour bus and chattted with anyone that cared to, at length. Truly, very down-to-earth guys, and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

burning_bridge 2008-06-07 07:16:25 PM
Saw them in '95ish but they weren't headlining, most people didn't know who they were, and the audience wasn't really into it. Most people were just drinking and chit-chatting before Collective Soul came on, which is when I left. About a year or two later Foo Fighters came through with Ween opening for them and the audience (probably a lot of the same people at KX) booed Ween off stage. Hate the local audience.

i love this band but their new record is one of the worst things ive heard in my whole life. they havent done anything worth listening to since mr bulbous(their best record easy).

This is weird as hell.

Just yesterday I took an old back road to my former college town and I realized I hadn't been that way since 1990 or so, when Gretchen Goes To Nebraska was fairly new. The road reminded me of that album because I used to listen to it quite a bit as I drove back and forth to class. Before yesterday I hadn't thought much about the band at all in years.

That cassette is long gone, of course, but I wanted to hear Gretchen again as I drove, for old time's sake. So I went to the Seeqpod site on the iPhone and sure enough found some streamable cuts off the album and jammed it for the ride. It's weird how doing crap like that brings back so many memories.

And so now plushere's this weird link.

/sounded mediocre after all these years

remnant: /sounded mediocre after all these years

it truly is. its not near as godly as people make it out to be. i think its the weakest of the old records.

So then, you prefer pyrotechnics, smoke, lasers, choreography and lip syncing?

I only saw them once years ago when they were The Edge. Memory of it was a little fuzzy because I partied a bit too much back in the days.

Wow, great tip subby! I've already listened to this album about 4 times since picking it up last night. Pretty awesome to me!
