To approximately 85% of the well-educated American public, "Marxist" means he likes Groucho, Chico and Harpo. Zeppo, not so much. Gummo not at all.

"I have said publicly, and I will again, that unless he proves me wrong, he is a Marxist," - Tom DeLay.

I have said publicly, and I will again, that Tom Delay is a felon. Whatever happened with this asshat anyway? Doesn't Texas do the speedy trial thing?

I was just about to say that someone should explain the idea of the "null hypothesis" to Tom DeLay. Carry on, then. :)

Tommy Boy knows that if you repeat something enough times, no matter how stupid and untrue, at least some people will believe it...

Do I have to cite examples?

Anyway, if DeLazy had bothered to research Obama's life a little, he'd find it quite different to what he claims.

Obama was born in 1970 near Koboko, in the West Nile Province of what is now the Republic of Uganda. Deserted by his father at an early age, he was brought up by his mother, a herbalist and diviner. He was a member of the Kakwa ethnic group, a small Islamic tribe that was settled in the region.

Obama received little formal education: sources are unclear whether or not he attended the local missionary school.

Although he was considered a skilled, and somewhat overeager, soldier, Obama developed a reputation for cruelty - he was almost cashiered on several occasions for excessive brutality during interrogations. He rose through the ranks, reaching sergeant-major before finally being made an effendi, the highest rank possible for a Black African serving in the British army. Obama was also an accomplished sportsman, holding Uganda's light heavyweight boxing championship from 1981 to 1982.

As Uganda approached independence Obama's close colleague Apolo Milton Obote, the leader of the Uganda People's Congress (UPC), was made chief minister, and then prime minister.

Obama began to strengthen his position within the army, using the funds obtained from smuggling and from supplying arms to rebels in southern Sudan. He also developed ties with British and Israeli agents in the country. President Obote first responded by putting Obama under house arrest, and when this failed to work, he was sidelined non-executive position in the army.

Popular history recalls Amin's declared title to be: "His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Obama, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular."

it's as if this were a guy who's desperately trying to cover up what seems to be the kind of old school Marxist, radical liberal failed ideology.

How can someone who clearly knows nothing about political philosophy become one of the most powerful men in American politics?

Delay could have spent five minutes doing research.

Yeah, he's a Marxist, all right. Why, just take a look at his donor list-- nothing but Bolsheviks who want to destroy private property and redistribute wealth to eradicate class stratification:

It always amazes me how they end up giving buttloads away to both parties each election. Not that they're unique.

Does that mean they're balanced in their choices, or just not very strategic with their charity?

The "donations by company" lists are built by totaling up the individual donations made by employees that happen to work for the same company. They do not come from the corporation directly.

In related news, Microsoft employs a buttload of people that donate to both political parties.

Employees of a corporation do not necessarily equal the corporation. But you knew this. Tell me, what is it about repeatedly embarrassing yourself that appeals to you? Did your parents utterly fail at teaching you the difference between GOOD attention and BAD attention?

Suicidal Writer 2008-06-05 10:29:05 PM

Since the early 1920s, numerous pamphlets and articles, even a few books, have sought to forge a link between "international bankers" and "Bolshevik revolutionaries." Rarely have these attempts been supported by hard evidence, and never have such attempts been argued within the framework of a scientific methodology. Indeed, some of the "evidence" used in these efforts has been fraudulent, some has been irrelevant, much cannot be checked. Examination of the topic by academic writers has been studiously avoided; probably because the hypothesis offends the neat dichotomy of capitalists versus Communists (and everyone knows, of course, that these are bitter enemies). Moreover, because a great deal that has been written borders on the absurd, a sound academic reputation could easily be wrecked on the shoals of ridicule. Reason enough to avoid the topic.

Fortunately, the State Department Decimal File, particularly the 861.00 section, contains extensive documentation on the hypothesized link. When the evidence in these official papers is merged with nonofficial evidence from biographies, personal papers, and conventional histories, a truly fascinating story emerges.

We find there was a link between some New York international bankers and many revolutionaries, including Bolsheviks. These banking gentlemen - who are here identified - had a financial stake in, and were rooting for, the success of the Bolshevik Revolution.

Who, why - and for how much - is the story in this book.

DamnYankees: This. The 200K Obama got from "Microsoft" just means that Microsoft has 100 employees who maxed out their donations to him.

Not really. There are individual donations, which should not (as far as I know) show up with the company affiliation, and then there is the PAC associated with the company.

At Microsoft, there's the "MSPAC" (the Microsoft Political Action Committee). Google, similarly, has a Google PAC. And MSPAC (and Google PAC) have candidates from both parties come to their corporate campuses and give speeches and solicit donations.

MSPAC is entirely supported by employees, it's true--not by the company at all--but their goal is to back candidates who are good for the company (I can't remember if they say quite this publicly or not). They do so based on the decisions of their board and their donors--I believe, though, that their board is entirely separate from Microsoft's board or executive structure.

So in other words, there is an official connection, but it's not really that close. MSPAC doesn't do what Steve Ballmer says--they're just an official PAC associated with the company.
