Every American in Australia that I have spoken to (so there's your fantastic sample size) has said they will vote for Mac Attack, as the Democrats "are too busy arguing with themselves" and "he seems like a good rational moderate".

I put money on Macainiac winning in November - you can learn so much just by talking to people - especially the older, monied and voting types...

You just wasted your money. Mccain used to act like a moderate. Now he is allying himself with Bush on every position but climate change.

He has several serious problems he would have to overcome to win.

1. He is highly untelegenic and is not a good speaker
2. He often makes terrible gaffes about commonly known topics
3. He has a deeply troubling past (Keating 5)
4. Conservatives distrust him
5. Liberals can't stand him
6. The evangelical crowd hates him
7. He has very little money to spend
8. He has many health issues

I could keep going but what would be the point? Obama is a global internet phenomenon and Mccain is a relic of the cold war.

I'm sorry but a bunch of old ex-pats in Australia are going to be clueless about what is happening here unless they are very net savvy.

I saw a documentary on Vietnam vets going back to Vietnam, the story it told was that in the south, vets are viewed as "dishonorable former allies" for being allied and then leaving. In the north they are viewed as "honorable former enemies", so they'd like him better in Hanoi than Saigon.

I kinda gotta say THIS. While I think Barack has the better leadership qualities, Bush Jr. has farked us so thoroughly in Iraq and on the budget that there's little to do now but watch the SS U.S.A founder from afar.

Which is pretty sad really. Great country....too bad the assholes burned it down. If you think this is hyperbole, take a gander at what the Dallas Federal Reserve Chief has to say about America's fiscal prospects. I'm sure you know better than he does:

I would think China likes McCain better. He has no plans to lower our debt, our even balance our budget. That's just more debt for China to buy up.

Good! That way they'll be surprised when Barack lays the smackdown on them.

Seriously, this talking point is retarded, as are you. Any idiot can see why. If Bin Laden (HA! That is his name right? Of the Texas Bin Ladens) wanted George W. to be Prez for a second term in 2004, all he had to do to help was endorse John Kerry for President.

So that would mean Hamas does NOT want America to elect Obama as they are not stupid, and even have their own policy advisors for example.

Voting for McCain would play into their hands, and I'm sure they've thought it through more than anyone

I guess they want a 3rd four year stretch of unprecedented increases in support, finance, and political power

A Big Tent or Competing Influences
The McCain campaign's foreign policy coordinator is Randy Scheunemann, a former top legislative aide for Republicans on Capitol Hill, including two former leaders of the Senate, Trent Lott and Bob Dole. Former Congressional Budget Office chief Douglas Holtz-Eakin coordinates economic policy. On national security issues, McCain receives advice from several generations of Republican strategists and former top foreign policy officials such as Henry Kissinger and Richard Armitage, often grouped in the realist camp of foreign policy, as well as William Kristol and Robert Kagan, leading neoconservative voices. The campaign lists Kagan as a leading foreign policy adviser, as noted below, along with State Department veteran Richard Williamson, former top defense and national security official Peter W. Rodman, and former CIA Director R. James Woolsey, who advises on national security and energy issues.

More of the same.

In my country it's a clear win for Obama but in Ireland the Democrats have always been loved.
I think it harks back to the days when every old woman over here had a picture of the Pope, De Valera and JFK up on the mantlepiece in their homes.
Since emigration has dropped considerably there isn't as big of an interest but Clinton still drew massive city choking crowds during his term (he did help the peace process) and I'd presume if Barack paid a visit it'd be the same.
The fact that they're both charismatic figures doesn't hurt.

On the flipside Reagan was met with vicious protests and most of his proposed dinner partners declined the offer.
GW couldn't even meet any crowd of people that wasn't set up for him and he stayed in his gigantic security bubble the whole time.

A bit strange in a country where the head of my government drinks with a couple of relaxed security guards every week in a pub thats a 10 minute bus journey from me but I suppose the US head is always going to be a focal point for a lot of protests.

If you look at GWB's early Iraq invasion speeches he basically said "Fark the world if they don't like it" and this is a very Republican sentiment thats never going to win you much friends in the global popularity contest.

They exploited the fear of a nation to further their goals and no one has held them accountable. They don't care about anything.
