Capital gains expire next year. I'm selling out before I get bent over.

I hate it when my credit card bills come due, too.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-06-05 06:55:17 PM
There must be something else to sell rather than actually paying our debts. Obviously we can't get much for our national dignity but maybe there's some stuff in the attic we can do without.

Cyberluddite [TotalFark] 2008-06-05 06:56:36 PM
The Dem's what? And who is "the Dem" you're referring to?

Jesus, it's amazing how many retards around here think that apostrophes (or should I say "apostrophe's" so that I speak in a language Subby understands) to form plural words. Did you learn anything in grammar school?

Woe is me. I no longer have an incentive to work hard for that five-figure bonus, nor for next year's $10,000 raise. Instead, I shall quit my job and start working for minimum wage, as success is clearly a punishment.

lol..just wait until people see what that tax bill is going to do. No one has ever won an election on a raising taxes platform..ever. People do generally vote their pocket book.

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-06-05 07:38:47 PM
I'm not taking any chances. Besides, my plans are along that line anyway, this just motivates me to pursue what I was going to sooner. Motivation is a wonderful thing, I'm going to dodge those bullets just like everyone else. In 6 months everyone will have their houses up for sale.

Yea..to some degree. He keeps shaping it. I know what Pelosi's plan is and the Democratic Congress. That's a little more important than Obama's ideas.

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-06-05 09:37:25 PM
And after today, Bush has no more influence at all according to this article so..I can only assume that Capital Gains WILL expire as scheduled January 1 2009. Before Obama takes office. And all they have to do is NOTHING.

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-06-05 09:44:33 PM

Yeah, not unless people see an actual legitimate change stemming from the actions of the government rather than the natural oscillation of the economy. Which isn't going to happen. I see why they waited 'till the taxes for this election year were already paid to bring this up.

I'm sorry, I just can't tag the entire GOP with the stupid antics of Bush and Crew. That's a bridge too far. Every republican I know can't stand those idiots and have been biatching about them for several years.

Action is necessary.

GAO estimates unfunded federal entitlement liabilities at $53 trillion
December 17, 2007
Summary Article

In a speech to the National Press Club, Comptroller General David Walker noted the release of the 2007 Financial Report of the United States Government and described the estimate that the "federal government's total liabilities and unfunded commitments for future benefits payments promised under the current Social Security and Medicare programs are now estimated at $53 trillion, in current dollar terms, up from about $20 trillion in 2000." This "translates into a de facto mortgage of about $455,000 for every American household and there's no house to back this mortgage," Walker said. The Medicare program represents $34 trillion of the "fiscal gap," with the prescription drug benefit along equaling about $8 trillion of the $34 trillion Medicare total. "Generations of Americans will be paying the price-with compound interest-for this new entitlement benefit," Walker noted. "In other words," Walker said, "our government has made a whole lot of promises that, in the long run, it cannot possibly keep without huge tax increases."

For the record, that figure is now $98 trillion mostly because Bush signed Medicare part D into law and revised numbers by the Dallas Fed because costs are rising faster than previously thought

But ignoring problems is FUN

Look at the time line. Obama's "ideas" won't be viable until after they have expired. The damage will be done. Pelosi and the Democratic Congress has seen to that on this one. Remember, Obama is just running for the Executive Branch..not King.

Arnold T Pants 2008-06-05 10:01:04 PM
The rich are a minority so fark them. The government should steal their money and redistribute it to everyone else (after taking a cut). That is what democracy is all about: screwing over the minority.

I got one teenager starting in the fall and another in two years. We certainly could wait a little while..that's for sure. But NOOOOOOO..Must exact revenge on the evil Republicans. I'm not even rich or a Republican..this is gonna cost me about 25 grand unless I can sell my house before they take affect.

He plans to lower income taxes on the poor and middle class, and raise them on the rich (though there is a rather loud argument on where each division falls).

/In an ideal world, a true "change" candidate would campaign on a platform of shifting taxes from income to land value and economic rent. Getting rid of the IRS altogether is not fiscally irresponsible if a better source of funding is available.

Something like the IRS will always be around under some sort of name; stay with attacking the concept of income tax.

Unlike King Bush. "Damage?" I paid MORE in taxes after the cuts. Why? Because state taxes went up. And they pretty much always do when there is a federal cut.

I don't expect to get any benefit from anyone's plans.

they're not evil, they're just remarkably stupid and short-sighted.
We're supposedly fighting a war right? And whats something that anybody needs when fighting a war? That's right, money. And lots of it.
Not that I'm advocating any NEW taxes mind you, but letting these ones expire makes a hell of a lot of sense from that viewpoint.
