Wow. This smacks of incredible desperation. Obviously, MSFT has lost control, again.

Yeah, if there is one thing that people know on Fark, it's what music is cool.

You know what my computer and mp3 player say about me?

Nothing, they are terminals that only respond to my actions.

Get a life, people.

swahnhennessy 2008-06-04 06:21:40 PM
With all the retro attention Joy Division has received in the past few years I don't think anyone can use them as a benchmark of "cool" any more. Besides, the type of person who worries if his .mp3 player is hip or not is as shallow a person as you're likely to find.

What a horrible horrible band. Christ, they have the musical talent of a middle school talent show combined with a drunken mime.

Not many people have heard a lot of Joy Division's material. They don't know what unknown pleasures they're missing out on. It's like they're stuck in some kind of interzone or something.

Ya! I mean, I have to find something to listen to after Cold Play, John Mayer, Whatever-generic-band, makes it onto popular playlists!

If you care how many other people listen to something, you should die. Flat out. Kill yourself. Waste.

$400 for this? Go buy yourself the Heart and Soul box set, all the DVD's related to Joy Division and an iPod. Much more enjoyable package.

I bought a Zune just this weekend, as so far, I am very pleased. It's not perfect, but it play music and video, and it works. Frankly, that's a ll that matters to me.

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2008-06-04 08:23:11 PM
I won my Zune 30GB model in a raffle at my job.

I have never had any Joy Division music on it or any other device I have ever owned.

So naturally, I am indifferent about your replies...

I'll say this for the Zune, the videos are cystal clear and the sound is excellent.

The software is an absolute farking nightmare.

I have a Zune and I like Joy Division.

notinuse [TotalFark] 2008-06-04 08:32:07 PM
On a side note, I saw the Joy Division documentary that this Zune is a promo for at SXSW this year. It was really, really good. Even if you're only vaguely familiar with the band, I'd highly recommend the film. It was called "Control" when I saw it, but I think they were considering changing the title.

therealburkazoid 2008-06-04 08:32:22 PM
I have an 80GB Zune and love it. Not sure what everybody else's problem is. The video clarity is excellent, the sound is outstanding.

I would rather dance, dance, dance, to radio, than buy a Zune.

davynelson 2008-06-04 08:39:23 PM
Uh, yeah, Joy Division...."cool". Okay.

Whatever you say.

/Pics or it didn't happen.
//naked Zune pics.

Backdraft32 2008-06-04 08:43:02 PM
I also have a Zune, and I also love it. I previously had an iPod, and I loved that too. Doesn't really matter to me either way, so long as they play my tunes. The only thing going for the iPod over the Zune is the amount of compatible accessories and car adapters....

TKPMM5 2008-06-04 08:45:05 PM
Zune has a bigger screen. Nuff said.

The Zune is right here, and it ain't going nowhere. A TV commercial told me so.

My 80GB Zune is AWESOME.

After my friend let me check out their Zune, I dumped my iPOD.

Honestly the Zune does kick ass.

* Zune has FM Radio. iPOD does not.
* Not tied to Apple music (iTunes)
* Better display on Zune.
* Better audio on Zune (I verified this on our Audio Percission equipment here at work)
* Better UI

Don't be one of these people who buys an iPOD just for the name, you'll put yourself in the same category as people who buy Guess jeans. This was a good lesson that a name doesn't mean "best".

Indeed, many find this useful. However many also find podcasts useful which the Zune does not have. iPod owners can buy the Radio Remote headphones to add FM radio support. The last I checked Zune owners cannot add podcasts.

* Not tied to Apple music (iTunes)

Yes because iPod-only music bought in iTunes is completely different than Zune-only music bought on the Zune Marketplace.

* Better display on Zune.

Both devices have a 320x240 screen.

* Better audio on Zune (I verified this on our Audio Percission equipment here at work)

That's like, your opinion, man.

* Better UI

Like I just said. I find the Zune interface to be a poor imitation.

Or don't be one of those people who just buy a Zune because "I farking hate Apple fanboys".

I'm sitting here listening to my Creative Labs Zen Vision M, which frankly was better than any other mp3 player that was out last year.

You are such a farking dork. No one believes your crap.

The iPod is NOT restrictive. I don't get any of my music from iTunes. The iPod also nails down all the track tags, perfectly. iTunes imbeds album art which I snag from Discogs (the only place where people scan in 12"s.)

FM radio is garbage, and no cares because they don't listen to the radio. The iPod is one of the highest rated players for sound quality, I don't care about your tests. The Zune doesn't have a better interface either, and everyone knows this.

Frankly, I merely >like
There's only one MP3 player I really want, and that's a Tonium Pacemaker. $800 and the fact I can't find one in a store is why I don't own one. That is the player that could take a HUGE chunk out of Apple's pie if they could just market the damn thing.

Backdraft32 2008-06-04 09:17:29 PM
theurge14: However many also find podcasts useful which the Zune does not have.

Incorrect. Zune Software has a podcast tab, and you can listen to any podcast on a Zune.

Glitchwerks 2008-06-04 09:18:03 PM
Um, I merely "like" my iPod. I always forget not to use certain symbols.

That thing looks amazing. I DJ with a buddy of mine sometimes, and that would come in really handy.... I never even heard of it before.

The Zune has iPod support so you're wrong there.

Some times the radio is good to get forecasts and such, plus some times I wanna see if the radio has anything new on.

And the screen is bigger in inches not just resolution.

deevo 2008-06-04 09:38:36 PM
I would buy a Zune if it had AM radio.

I want to listen to sports or the news, OK? Yeah, "Talk of the Nation" would be cool if I were on a long train ride or something.
