Calexico rules my face. Joey seems awesome as hell. Their "Not Even Stevie Nicks" > "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is astonishing.

And I'm intrigued by "Victor Jara's Hands" as a song title, since the only other song I know of that references Victor Jara's torture is the Clash's iconic "Washington Bullets":

As every cell in Chile will tell
The cries of the tortured men
Remember Allende, and the days before,
Before the army came
Please remember Victor Jara,
In the Santiago Stadium,
Es verdad - those Washington Bullets again

can't farking wait.

Sweet! Calexico in Oxford on Sep 12th. But goddamn it the tickets are expensive! £66.75 a pop.

Guess I'll get the CD and pretend I was there. Saw them in Seattle and it was amazing.

I'm there. Pre-sale is tomorrow morning.

Bonus is that I'll be seeing My Bloody Valentine two nights later. That's a good week.

Only 9 US dates out of 35, guess I'm not going to get to see them again. Sucks because they are really good live.

I'm sure this is just a first leg. They'll announce more dates later.

I haven't really listened to them since Feast of Wire, but they're pretty good.

Got into them after listening to Iron & Wine's "In the Reins" EP. Really some beautiful music.

Alright, I get to be music smart. U2 has a song "One Tree Hill" on the Joshua Tree album which references Victor Jara. Here's the verse from it

And in the world, a heart of darkness, a fire zone
Where poets speak their heart, then bleed for it
Jara sang, his song a weapon in the hands of love
You know his blood still cries from the ground

I think I love Giant Sand too much to enjoy Calexico.

I saw Calexico at Bonnaroo Music Festival a few years back and was an instant fan.

I managed to find a place in my heart for both... just don't tell Howe Gelb.

Aww...man, don't you know? He hears it anyway. He's personally on his way to come over and..uh..croak angrily at you for a long, long time.

But when he does, can you get him to sign my copy of Love Songs? It's much better than Calexico's taco party music.
