Sweet! As a guy who "bought" IN RAINBOWS for zero pounds sterling from them, I'll gladly buy the album from iTunes.

And they even have Cuttooth. Now I need an iTunes Plus version of Killer Cars, Permanent Daylight, and the other 40 or so awesome b-sides...

Seriously, what in the holy fark was he THINKING with that Chris Gaines shiat? I even kinda liked Garth up to that point(dude puts on a helluva live show), but that was just mind-numbingly stupid. I can't believe that nobody around him didn't say "Ya know Garth, if you do this, you're gonna look like a complete and total farkstick".

I'd love to know the thought process that led up to that trainwreck.

Someone answer me this... how can a band hold out from iTunes on their own? Am I to believe that every single one of the THOUSANDS of artists on iTunes gave their OK?

I thought the label or distributor had the rights to distribute everything?

So they actually had to get permission from Captain and Tennille, BJ Thomas, etc. etc. etc.?

/serious question

They own the rights and masters. Most performers on major labels DON'T.

It was suppose to be the sound track for a movie. It was never intended to be a stand alone album. But the movie company back out and it was left out there. Garth has said he would have never made the album if he knew the movie would not be made.

BTW, subby, what the hell does selling songs on iTunes have to do with selling CDs anywhere?

Valdes 2008-06-03 04:06:20 PM
I still think AC/DC displays more individuality in each one of their diverse albums than Muse does, or any of their lesser forebearers.

I think Radiohead were right the first time.

OK Computer is one of those albums that's made up of great tracks, it's an album where it's more than the sum of its parts.

The single track download model is a double-edged sword. Artists who produce albums of filler can't rip people off so easily, but it might also mean that people miss out on albums full of great non-single material because they just buy one track.

mrEdude 2008-06-03 04:31:31 PM

Muse has nothing to do with AC/DC, unfortunately, for a meeting between the two would mean the complete obliteration of Muse.

AC/DC is all about girls, cars, and F'n.
Muse is all about... whatever the hell they are about.
AC/DC would F the shiat out of Muse's groupies if Muse's groupies actually had female parts.

I also want to defend Brooks for that. He was playing a character in an upcoming fake biopic movie and the album was supporting that (I even saw some promo material for it).

/The fact that he took such a risk with his country image gives me more respect for him.
//I also respect his taste in songwriters

Kyosuke [TotalFark] 2008-06-03 07:11:28 PM
The band had held out against iTunes for quite some time, not (officially) for financial reasons, but due to an objection to the policy of splitting albums into individual tracks and allowing them to be sold separately.

In other words, they wanted the luxury of writing one or two good songs, and forcing you to buy the rest of the crap that they include in the package.

If the whole album is that good, then don't separate it into tracks.

Before you crawl back in your troll hole, maybe name two or three bands that aren't/weren't overhyped that you think are/were great?
Then we can get a better idea how big a Moran you really are.

And exactly how do you reach that conclusion? There's a very good reason why Garth is one of the most beloved singers in country music and it certainly wasn't a lack of integrity.

Saracuda: I bought that Chris Gaines CD. I liked it. It's not Garth-like at all, and I think some of the songs are pretty cool. You can begin calling me a dork now. I can take it. :)

I've heard a few songs off the album and they really weren't too bad. It even produced his only top 40 hit on the Hot 100 (#5) and a top 25 hit on the country charts. It just didn't sell because it's not at all Garth-like and by didn't sell I mean it 'only' went platinum twice.

:) You see, Tacoby is doing everyone a favor. Now we all know to stick hom on our ignore lists.

Also, I have always said that it is impossible for AC/DC to sell out. When your overt artistic goals are sex, drugs, money, and a general rock n/ roll lifestyle, it would be difficult to abandon these goals for sex, drugs, money, and a general rock n/ roll lifestyle.
