When I saw him he was amazing. Not just the music but the patter with the audience between songs was worthy of a great stand up artist.

Uh, with maybe the exception of Bow WoW WoW, all those bands were pretty damn good. It's not like Bo Diddley went around and apologized to all the bluesmen he "borrowed" riffs and songs from either.

All artists build on some tradition, somewhere, and I consider The Who and The Animals to be originators in every sense of the word, despite the guitar riffs they lifted from Bo Diddley.

He had quite an influence and far from being dismissive of imitators, subby should be holding them up as examples of Bo's life's work.

/RIP funny-lookin-guitar man.

And since that's universally known as the "Bo Diddley Beat," it's hard to say people didn't give him credit.

Go to You Tube and listen to Mona by Quicksilver Messenger Service. The recording is kind of bad, but I think it is a great version of a Bo Diddley song

Bo did not like me. Really. Sorry, Bo, I was young and stupid. You were A-Ok in my book.

Worth noting: Kerry King (of Slayer) paid 50K each to Eric Clapton and Bo Diddley for lessons just after "Reign In Blood" came out to learn how to play faster guitar solos.
