Suspended DOES NOT equal fired submitter.

Um, so what happened?

The article seems to skip the most relevant part of the story. I want to know what this guy did to get suspended.

No kidding. All I get from the article is that the principal stopped 'Dad' from taking the sweets directly to his daughter.

Did a fight ensue? Did Dad leave the cupcakes and the office staff ate them all?

siouxsie [TotalFark] 2008-06-01 09:05:37 PM
adamgreeney, I am going to have to go with you.

The only thing that article did not do is say what happened. At all.

A man showed up at school with his daughter's birthday cake (submitter!), and was refused entry to the school by the secretary. Whereupon he argued that his wife told him that she had cleared it with the teacher for him to deliver it personally.

Then--NOTHING! And the principal is getting suspended (not fired!) and must apologize to this man. For what? Who knows? Maybe he threw the cake at him. Punched him in the face? Maybe they got in a slap fight in the lobby?

/I HATE this article!
//someone make up the rest of the story for me so I can sleep!
/// :-p

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP)...

The controversy began when Frank Carbino delivered the goodies to the school May 6, intending to bring them to his daughter's class for her birthday. He said he got as far as the school office when a secretary told him to leave the sweets on the counter for his daughter to pick up and bring back to her class.

Carbino said he protested, saying his wife had cleared the birthday plans with the teacher the day before. He then spoke with D'Amico, who told him school policy prohibited parents from personally delivering birthday cakes or treats.

Carbino? D'Amico? Since when did Greenwich start admitting Italians?

Hey, Principal D'Amico, kind of sucks when the shoe is on the other foot doesn't it? How many people have YOU suspended that didn't think that they deserved it? Did they run to THEIR lawyer?

TFA didn't say if he was suspended WITH pay or not. Chances are he's getting his paycheck.

To qualify as a news site don't you have to post, oh news or something, not a disjointed story that does not explain anything, even its reason for existing?

MIguy [TotalFark] 2008-06-01 09:58:31 PM
Hopefully the principal cock punched the asshole parent who thought it was ok to go strolling around the school.

The enormity of this article's lameness and total incomprehension has ripped a hole in the space/time continuum creating a giant anus in space, spewing out turd shaped cupcakes all over our galaxy.

I keep trying to turn the page, to find out what happened to the Dad in all of this. What about the children??? Where are the cupcakes now??? Will the principle every find justice? This whole community is holding on by a lump of frosting, circling the anus in space...and no one cares!!

I believe the principal called his daughter a whore.

wow, the principal must have freaked or somethin

can't wait to hear the slimy details...someday

Gyrfalcon [TotalFark] 2008-06-01 10:08:07 PM
Your friendly OCD reporter has found some answers! Well, sort of.

Apparently, part of the problem stems from the fact that the dad challenged the principal and they got into some kind of pissing match over whether or not the actual written school policy said parents couldn't deliver cupcakes to class. Link (new window)

The AP took part of the story from the complete story here: Link (new window) which goes on to explain how the dad went home, looked up the "school policy" and lo & behold there was a freshly-added page with the cupcake thing in it.

And apparently, Glenville Elementary is having a whole bunch of problems anyway. Link (new window)

Thank you. Donations will be accepted.

Didn't we have some fun though? Remember when you showed up with a birthday cake and I said "No cakes in the classroom!" and you were like [in a mocking tone] "NO WAY!" and then I was all "We pretended we were going to stop you with the cake"? That was great!"

Subby's maybe a little misleading but not necessarily wrong.

siouxsie
"A man showed up at school with his daughter's birthday cake (submitter!), and was refused entry...And the principal is getting suspended (not fired!) and must apologize to this man."

FTFA: A spat over sweets -- cupcakes to be exact -- has resulted in the suspension of a Greenwich elementary school principal, his lawyer said...This man is being proposed for removal."

Subby was right. They were cupcakes - not cake. You were wrong there, siouxsie. However, you're right about the suspension thing. He has been suspended and not fired, but the article says he is "proposed for removal." So, obviously he can be fired for this and technically could be reason #15,371.

/not submitter
//don't really care - just really bored

mrEdude 2008-06-01 10:17:15 PM
Well that explains a lot of it, that he went to sneak in a new part of the school code.

Let's face it, any additions on the up and up would have to go through committee, right?

I can see where he brought some shiit upon himself.

/and really, what would the harm have been in checking with the kids's teacher? it's her fukking birthday. jesus.

IonBeam2: Individually frosted cakes?

Not at all. That episode was on SciFi a couple of weeks ago.

See, if the dad had put a homing device in the cupcakes this wouldn't have been a problem at all.

nuclear_asshat 2008-06-01 10:24:49 PM
Our school had one simple rule. You had to bring enough for everyone.

Because our whole country is pussified now, you cannot bring anything because kids are fat, have allergies, lacto-vego-fied or something else which makes snacks uncool.

jst3p 2008-06-01 10:25:33 PM
Bathia_Mapes: Suspended DOES NOT equal fired submitter.

They are thinking about it:
"This man is being proposed for removal," lawyer John Gesmonde said. "I will confirm it was about cupcakes and birthday cakes."

Still have no clue about why the principal is being disciplined.

Honestly, I'm guessing dad was acting like an arse to the secretary and the principal got in on it and said or did something slightly off-color and dad cried to his buds on the school board.
