Vote Republican in 2008 and support those who have News busters stories read (and then explained) to them.

Of course it was. Whatever.

Heroic Poser 2008-06-01 09:07:17 PM
It might have been, truly.
Problem is, even taking a dump right now is political because he's in politics.
"Sir, why did you choose now to take a dump? Was it because Hilary was making a speech in Maine or because McCain is in Idaho?"

A man's church was causing great fuss
So he deftly threw them under a bus
It was to his opponent's dismay
because they can no longer portray
The man as an object of disgust.

burndtdan 2008-06-01 10:25:50 PM
i'm sure there was a political side to it as well, obviously. but i do believe a part of the decision was because the church couldn't function with that much media attention.

i can imagine how frustrating that would be to everyone else at the church. they weren't trying to be vetted for knowing a guy running for president.

Yes, I'm sure it was interfering greatly with their DVD sales.

True. He seemed a lot more angry at the media for daring to be discussing his church yesterday, rather than angry at the church itself for its douchebaggery..

I honestly dont see what the big deal is. Obama wants to leave his church and everyone goes batshiat. How about the news starts to cover things that actually matter like the economy, the unemployment rate, the war, health care, etc. I'm getting really sick of this girly high school political gossip that means absolutely nothing in the bigger picture.

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2008-06-01 10:39:47 PM
Hagee and Parsley aren't political either.

Selector 2008-06-01 10:40:13 PM
Okay, we get it. Obama has/had a crazy-ass pastor. Can we move on?? Is this really what American politics has been reduced to??

They already talk about that other stuff. It's not as fun though.

LocalCynic 2008-06-01 10:41:30 PM
John McCain's decision to become a Southern Baptist right before the South Carolina primary wasn't political.

HURRRRRRRRRRRRR

I'm an Obama supporter, and that does seem a bit disingenuous. Of course it was political to an extent. What isn't these days?

But that doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing. Before, people threw stones because Obama wasn't leaving. Now they're throwing stones because he's leaving. What do you want, people?

It's more or less the same thing as lobbyists being removed from McCain's campaign and wondering if it was political.

No, I'm just saying. I'm not going to pretend I know everything about it, but it looks like he hasn't been there for a while, learned about what was going on, saw it as it was and said, "Ok. I don't want to go anymore."
Pretty much as simple as that.

If I were him I would be angry at both. His pastor screwed him over and the media ate it up and turned it into a huge show when it had no reason to be. Why don't I hear half as much gossip about McCain or Hillary?

/by the way, Hi!!!!

No. It was pretty obviously political. Stop giving trolls more "HAHA YOU'RE DRINKING THE KOOLAID" material.

A politician? Doing something political? During an election season?

The hell you say!

So wait a second... Stephanopolous asked... a REAL question? Is that why this article got an "Asinine" tag? I'd have gone with "Unlikely" myself.

Fine. And yes, his pastor did screw him over. Agreed. He'll be screwing him over again in October when his book is released.

Lawnchair 2008-06-01 10:48:46 PM
A little of A, a little of B. Let's be honest, if your church were getting a dozen death threats on the church answering machine each day, and people were getting tracked to their homes by gonzo bloggers, your fellow parishoners might be just a little less than polite at all times, too.

Yeah, because showing him with the head of the church in question (A CHRISTIAN CHURCH) means I'm calling him Muslim.

rush_limbaugh_sent_me: I'm back in the saddle again.

Back when Obama made his "important speech" on race that liberals compared to MLK's I Have a Dream speech, he not only said he couldn't disown Wright, but he said he said his church represented a typical black church. Now he is disowning Trinity? What happenened? The church hasn't changed...Wright hasn't changed...it couldn't possibly be that Obama is disowning his pastor and church of 20 years out of political necessity in an election year. Anybody that thinks that is a Cynic, and we all know Obama is running agaist the Cynics as a Man of Hope and an Agent of Change.

I told you liberals a month ago that we are just starting to find out about Obama, and it's only going to get worse. That white preacher that sounds just like Wright and even curses in church like Wright, which is bizarre, seems to have validated me. Any Obama supporters starting to have some buyer's remorse? :)

Actually, every Obama supporter in this thread so far save one agrees with you (that it's pretty obviously a political move). Oops.

i'm sure the congregation goes every sunday to sell DVDs. not to worship, but for DVD sales.

Wait what? Seriously? I've sorta been living in a cave for the past few weeks so I didn't hear anything about his pastor releasing a book. That is rediculous. I would leave that establishement too if thats what the people I trusted did to me.

God, I bet that's going to be one hell of a read. Wright seems pretty self-serving (even if it is in the interest of others)

The best thing about all the people who say Obama supporters a cult and all that are these treads that have at least 2:1 people blasting Obama and calling his supporters kool-aid drinkers with out even really saying anything about the article.

The anti-Obama kool-aid drinking cult works in mysterious ways.

jjorsett 2008-06-01 10:56:06 PM
I don't know about you people, but I'm ready to move on from this crap to more substantive issues.

How about that Michelle Obama "Whitey kept me down" tape, huh?
