Can we start an "Obama Circle-jerk" tab as an offshoot of the Politics tab? There are enough of these damn threads every day to merit a new tab.

Not to interrupt the Obama hate club, but let me interject a little logic:

He went to Trinity all his life, because he lived in Chicago all of his life. It was his church of choice, and it was in his area.

Now, he lives in DC to be closer to his job as a Senator. Soon, he is somewhat likely to be President. Is it possible, maybe, that he changed his membership to a church a little closer to his new place of residence?

My wife grew up in a Lutheran church in a small town in Mid-Michigan. She was baptized there, went to the churches school, and our kids were baptized there as well (I'm more or less agnostic, so it's for her mostly.) But now that the Navy, having a funny thing about sailors being close to water, have parked us in Norfolk, VA. Rather than keep her membership at a church almost a thousand miles away, she changed her membership to the ironically named Trinity Lutheran Church here in Norfolk.

But, please, don't let that interrupt all of you from thinking that Obama is doing the proverbial bus-toss just for doing what any church going person would do upon a long relocation. He must just be doing what is good for his campaign. NO OTHER EXPLANATION POSSIBLE.

Let us not forget that Obama didn't leave the church because he disagreed with its views. He left for the good of the church..because his candidacy was focusing attention on it. Of course, this is something most churches strive for, but the Obamassiah knows what's best for everyone.

I have to admit the GOP ,the right wing media and a willing Hillary campaign have done a hell of a job at splitting the party.

It'll be a tough row to hoe to try and get it back.

No, silly, he left the church so he could go back to his mosque.

Duh!

MyRandomName: Obama grew up in Hawaii not Chicago. He chose to join that church as an adult.

My mistake. He still lived in Chicago since he was in college (College of Chicago, if I'm not mistaken) and has lived there until he won the Senate seat.

The point, however, is that he went to that church while he lived there, now he's likely joining another closer to his new home. Don't see why this is such big news. Outside of the right wing concern trolls, of course, that have been saying for months now that he needs to dump Wright and the church, only now to damn him as soon as he seemingly does so.

You guys know what's next, right?

He left his Christian church because he's really a Muslim!

FishingWithFredo 2008-06-01 04:01:56 PM
Actually, the way Obama is attempting to distance himself from the church shows what a weasel he is.

He does it on the weekend, during the Dems figuring out what to do over Florida and Michigan, which obviously would dominate the political news coverage.

He couches it in that he wants to spare the church and its parishioners from inappropriate media scrutiny, thus admitting no errors in judgement, playing the victim and failing to accept personal responsibility -- all traits that the left seemingly considers admirable.

Obama then adds:

"It's clear that now that I'm a candidate for president, every time something is said in the church by anyone associated with Trinity, including guest pastors, the remarks will imputed to me even if they totally conflict with my long-held views, statements and principles."

Translated: It's clear that now that I'm a candidate for president, I have to pretend to be something I haven't been for the past 20 years. And that I made a mistake associating myself with a white-hating church. And -- what a shocker -- working-class whites don't seem to like me as much now that they know this about my church. So, I'll take a shot at seeing if this works to help me politically.

Sorry you Obama supporters don't see through this guy yet. It took me a few months, but now I do.

You are mistaken..."Following high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at Occidental College for two years.[6] He then transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations.[7]"

Hobodeluxe: I have to admit the GOP ,the right wing media and a willing Hillary campaign have has done a hell of a job at splitting the party.

FTFY. If the GOP and the "vast right-wing media conspiracy" had the power to split the Democratic party, they'd have done it ages ago. The schism you're seeing now could only happen from within. I know the party loyalists have a desperate desire to somehow pin it on those rascally Republicans, but the Clintons are the sole architects of this mess. The GOP benefits, naturally, but they couldn't have caused it to happen.

Let's give credit where credit is due, shall we?

Your post would work better if said church didn't have white members (which it does) and if ALOT of Rev. Write's statements weren't quoting white guys (which he was).

You act like he lives in a vacuum and judge him against absolute, unattainable standards. If you turn those standards towards any other candidate for president you'll find that Obama is far better.

Or keep being a sophist.

Rev. Wright was dead-on. White people don't want to be made aware that black churches are different, and---heaven forbid---not worse.
