Just another example of how we are going into societal decline.

Yeah, totally agree with that one - it used to be that homeless people didn't hang around dumps like Heathrow

bongmiester [TotalFark] 2008-06-01 02:45:23 PM
sounds like they're not homeless anymore

M0nkeyp0x 2008-06-01 02:47:10 PM
If they are flying AirTran they probably aren't homeless, their flight just keeps getting canceled.

Lampmonster [TotalFark] 2008-06-01 02:48:20 PM
They're not homeless. They're flights have just been delayed indefinitely until the supplies arrive. At least the airline didn't put them into suspended animation.

/I know that's not obscure.

Am I the only here that's thinking that in 2-3 years (or even less) the society in the US is gonna snap? I mean, economical decline, social rotting; there's no guide, no focus, nothing.

There's gonna be blood in the streets, I'm afraid.

Couldn't they just send them to terminal 5 to sort luggage. And just pay them in biscuits.

Yea, I know what you mean, because homeless people are SOOOOO unheard of in the US. WHAT is going on???

Yeah, discord in the U.S. is getting so bad it's spreading to the British.

If the flights were on time, they would be able to see who was homeless as the real travellers woulden't have to sleep for 17 frikkin hours on a damn metal bench.

That makes sense. I remember sleeping overnight there while waiting for a 6:30am flight to Marrakesh and being confused by Polish women carrying their luggage in half-broken cardboard boxes.

I think it might be just immigrants who are doing this, not any real people. Don't worry about it.

LOL

A civilization will soon evolve that will produce lemon soaked paper napkins and they can be on their way. In the meantime bisuits and tea will be served every 10 years...

/Too lasy to find the exact text.

Nope. Real people. Sports jackets and everything. With iPods.

/saw more homeless people begging for gas money on Highway 5 in Oregon last month than I ever see in the UK.

As long as they can keep cable tv and video games cheap, we'll be OK. They give people a refuge when things suck in real life.

As someone who has slept in Heathrow, I agree with her. Its mighty comfy and no one bothers you, until its time for them to open the shops, then you need to move

He was wearing a thin cotton jacket and rain-soaked trousers. In his left hand was a white bag, containing a camel-coloured wool overcoat with a Harrods label inside. He says he found it under a bench at the airport a few weeks ago.

lost property seems to now officially have been replaced by a team of thieves

there are dozens of employment agencies servicing the airport and surrounding industry - and they'll employ immigrants straight off the plane.

the airport people have mental problems and / or have dropped out of society by choice

No kidding! I spent more on an airport meal than I typically spend on 4-5 meals out, and 4-5 days worth of meals in.

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

In one of the books they find a ship that was supposed to take off thousands of years ago but didn't due to a lack of Lemon Soaked Paper Napkins and the ship systems put the passengers into suspended animation for ten years at a time to stop them complaining about the delay.

The society broke down and no lemon soaked paper napkins were coming but the ships logic circuits decided that a civilization would spring up and provide them eventually.

Its whichever book that Zaphod goes to the Total Perspective Vortex .... damn. Now I want fairy cake!

Well, yeah -- was a hotel even in consideration? I would not get a hotel for anything short of 12 hours -- unless it was to get free parking.

/In Minneapolis, it was cheaper for us to get a hotel room for 3 hours (where we showered, changed, and watched TV prior to the free shuttle) than it would have been to pay the parking fees.

I got bored about halfway through. Did TFA mention how they make money to buy food? Panhandling isn't a very surreptitious income source when you're trying not to get thrown out into the street.

I've spent many a night sleeping in airports (including sleeping on books at Bangkok and three days on the concrete floor in Nairobi), so I'm getting a kick out of this.

If they were real people would you take them into your home and care for them with the dignity they deserve as human beings whether they felt like working or not?

Seems that they just sleep in the airport, going out during the day to do whatever homeless people do during the day -- I assume making small amounts of money.

I guess I've never seen these people since without boarding passes and a body-cavity search they'll never get near the actual gates.

/spent hours sleepless in Schiphol
