Hmmm, Berliners...

Berliners must realize the perfect bacon opportunities presented to them.
One person fractured his leg after a boar turned on him. In that case, the boar entered the living room and the man tried to shoo it out with a broom

yeah, it even volunteered to be bacon!

I remember the "Grueny-pigs" that would come out of the Berlin city forest (Gruenewald) and roam through the (then-)American military housing areas. Berliners were told not to let their dogs run loose, and once I almost hit a big ol' pig while driving home late one night. My Opel station wagon would have lost that fight!

massive Grunewald park

Massive Park?
Seems like the writer didn't see the "forest" because of all the trees.

Im Dol, a small park in the midst of a residential area in the South of Berlin

When I was out jogging in that area last year, I had a boar stampeding after me for a couple of seconds.

One school also had fun with them; you have elementary school kids running their laps while the boars are busy digging up the soccer field or the grass around the track.

Hmmn. 10,000 wild boars weighing up to 200 pounds definitely sounds more extreme than the usual urban raccoon problem.

I think the essential questions is 'what sides go best with roast boar?'

I suggest homemade apple sauce. Rice is right out.

/I'll be at my grill.

This is a problem with a simple solution.

The equation: Boars + .30-30 Winchester = Schweinshax'n*.

/Yummy!
//Traditional Bavarian dish
///Maybe the urban marmots in Berlin are confused
////* English = knuckle of pork

"looks like?" What is he implying? that hunters would jsut blast away at anything? Can they shoot anything that IS a wild pig?

He's probably implying that there's a high risk of collateral damage if you are hunting in a city with 12000 people per square mile where you have to shoot the boars between passing cars, joggers, cyclists, people walking their dogs, girls riding their ponies, people enjoying the forest lakes, playing kids, people having a picnic, ..

Nah I dont' believe that. If that was his concern he would express it. The boars are not in an amongst crowds of people, they are in parks and open areas and people stay away from them. You can pretty easily line up a shot, particularly if you use a platform for height, where a miss won't carry far. Also, if you are really concerned about the boars, you close the park and go in to hunt them.

im in berlin and you never ever see these things outside of the far burbs. berlin is actually the whole county so this is more of a country thing.

We've got those around my place....have had to stay up at night and lie in wait for the lawn-digging bastards. Shooting them is fun, but I feel kind of bad afterwards.

/Off my lawn, you farking pigs!

I'm in Germany too and apparently wolves are making a kind of comeback in Poland and eastern Germany. Haven't seen any here in Weimar but you better believe I'm gonna get in the car when I do.

I think he did, just in a tongue-in-cheek way.

People don't stay away from the parks and forests. ;)
And "staying away" from the boars would be passing in five to ten meters distance..happened three times to me in the last two months (once jogging, twice on bicycle).

Or as my brother saw a couple of days ago:
a herd with piglets enjoying themselves on the green strip in the middle of a main road (six lanes, three in each direction), stopping the traffic when they decided to cross the road to reach it.

It's not so much that you will have to shoot into crowds, but that you have to make sure that nobody (and nobody's dog) is on the other side of the shrubbery.

How far of a burb is Wilmersdorf? Or Charlottenburg? ;-)
You will certainly see them everywhere that's close to the Grunewald.

But what's a more or less new trend - taking Zehlendorf as an example here - is that you start to encounter them frequently in parks south of the Argentinische Allee or east of Clayallee (google maps link).

Hey! Wolves hunt boars!
Now if we put a pack of wolves into the Grunewald..
Then we'll need a bunch of lions from the zoo to control the wolves..

/on a related note: having a fox in your garden is a given here by now; some of them don't seem to give a flying fox f*ck about the humans and cars around them and keep sun-bathing on the lawn while people walk by
