I love it, they're quoting "David Mudkips". That's an unfortunate name to be quoted on the intertubes.

This is the worst law Guiliani passed in his administration.

And Blondey "Boris" McTurkenjew goes and copies it as one of his first acts in London.

The Muslim horde that is rapidly overtaking my favorite parts of London will be thrilled that London is one law closer to Sharia compliance.

FTA: "Violence against Tube staff is already a major problem, particularly from people who have been drinking, but now our members will be expected to approach people drinking and stop them or even remove them from the train or station," he said.

Yeah that's gonna end well ...

I lived in London for a while and loved it, but one thing didn't make sense. You would think that a democratic country where people drink as much as the English do would limit laws restricting alcohol consumption.

That's what you would think, but you'd be wrong.

The attitude of "we'll kill all crime, from small to large, starting with things I don't like and think are anti-social" sickens me.

Alternative alcohol containers FTW, London!

Try:
- Starbucks containers
- Water bottles
- Travel coffee mugs
- Aluminum bottles like SIGGs (these can hold carbonated or fizzy beverages. aka beer, or your rum & coke)
- Arizona iced tea bottles

Do not try:
- Flasks (too obvious)
- Nalgene bottles (mind the bisphenol A)

I'm pretty sure drinks aren't legal on any public transit in Canada, but that hasn't stopped me piling on a bus literally holding a glass pint of beer once. Bus driver didn't blink an eye.

I panicked for a moment there before I RTFA. I was worried that the city of New Braunfels, Texas was up to its old tricks again...

Nothing beats tubing on the Guadalupe with a cooler full of beer in the summer.

Sucks for y'all across the pond though. I'll hoist a Guinness in your honour!

if we drive out anti-social behaviour

Pardon, but THOUSANDS of people doing ANYTHING is by definition SOCIAL. The asshole trying to stop it is--again, by definition--the one being ANTI-social.

Bastard. Someone give him a cocktail, STAT.

First they take your drinking at work.

Then they take your drinking on the way home from work.

Next is taking your drinking at home.

trendon: OK, seriously, what the fark is going on in England? I know we like to joke about England being a nanny state and "snowflake" and shiat like that, but this seems to be going beyond a simple "OMG, they like did that?!"

Meh, people voted for a new Mayor of London - and one of his pledges was to ban drinking on the Underground.

You can talk about nanny state all you want, but if many Londoners effectively voted to stop drinking on the Underground then I don't see the problem.

Oh and next time, instead of asking "what the fark is going on in England" why not read some proper UK news sites, like www.telegraph.co.uk (right-wing) or www.guardian.co.uk (left-wing). That way you might actually understand a bit about the country, instead of just reading dumb knee-jerk junk news.

Am I the only one that read that as "drunken lube party"?

Yup. Good thing we live in the good old free USA where drinking on public transport is perfectly acceptable and permitted everywhere.

Must've been a crap night for the drivers, flash photography can temporarily blind a driver who has spent the last 5 minutes in darkness and needs to stop the train at precisely the right point. And I'm not a rachelist but it's obvious that most of the dicking around would've been done by all the drunken Aussies and Kiwis.

That is until you meet a cop who's failed to meet his quota and you get a nice case of "ivresse publique manifeste" (been there, done that, puked on the t-shirt).

And what about that new law project about banning happy hours?

Can you imagine a lone, possibly female, traveler on an underground train, late at night, NOT wanting to meet a group of loud stroppy drunks to brighten up their journey home? This is to protect people and many people want this protection.

BTW a 'Nanny State' is the state that over-does the 'protect people from themselves' legislation

Also Bob Crow is an ass
