The DNC rules committe is enslaving the Michigan delegates to vote for Obama. Everyone knows that everyone in Michigan hates Obama. That's why they didn't vote for him, obviously. Count the votes!

I was at the meeting. Just got back

Clinton supporters were taken out by security for breaking up the meeting near the end.

No Obama people booed, only Clinton people did.

lol. 1/10.

Seat them?
Well I thought they said that every vote must be counted.

I guess this year they mean only 50% of the vote.

Get ready cause this one is going to court and it is going to be fun.

The hope is that, eventually, after Obama goes over the top, at least some of the Hillary diehards calm the hell down. A good amount of them, it appears, will have to be convinced not to vote against their own interests out of spite.

Didn't Hillary herself say the differences (at least policy-wise) between her and Obama were minor, and the differences between them and McCain were major?

Spazholio 2008-05-31 08:07:46 PM
"...dealing a blow to U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and backing a plan approved by her rival, Barack Obama."

"...because it was held too early and gives Clinton a net gain of 19 delegates in Florida."

How does this "deal a blow" to Clinton if it nets her any delegates?

unsurprising. similar to the "brooks brothers riot" in 2000. hillary supporters have all the class of bush supporters.

So who's the new president again?

Weaver95 [TotalFark] 2008-05-31 08:07:54 PM
And once again, I reiterate - Hillary will not quit the race. she'll ignore today's procedural defeat, give a speech about 'fairness' and commit to a convention floor fight.

She needed to net many more than that to have a chance.

What is the distribution going to be from each of the states? Has that been decided yet?

I love the part where Clinton Supporters say that Obama shouldnt get ANY delegates from Michigan because he wasnt on the ballot. HE WASNT ALLOWED ON THE BALLOT. CLINTON BROKE THE RULES. The Uncommitted votes can be assumed as Obama votes.

Farking morons! Can Clinton supporters actually legitimize something like this? 100% of Michigan goes to Clinton? Farking nuts!

Abner Doon 2008-05-31 08:09:11 PM
Well, this has been fairly epic. I think I'm politicked out for a couple of days, I'm going to go drink myself into a rum-coma.

Weaver95: And once again, I reiterate - Hillary will not quit the race. she'll ignore today's procedural defeat, give a speech about 'fairness' and commit to a convention floor fight.

maybe she can talk about the "fairness" of agreeing to abide by the DNC's ruling when she was ahead in the polls and then disagreeing with it when she was behind. "fairness?" hillary? don't make me farking puke.

Cuphat: The DNC rules committe is enslaving the Michigan delegates to vote for Obama.

New plan: Each delegate gets three-fifths of a regular delegate's vote.

Spazholio: How does this "deal a blow" to Clinton if it nets her any delegates?

Because getting them all seated with full votes, plus Obama getting zero MI delegates was her only hope.

so, is this the end of this obamination of a primary?

Good. That makes me feel all warm and tingly.

Khoja 2008-05-31 08:10:07 PM
Playing with the delegate calculator on CNN.com, if she carried each remaining primary with 100% in her favor and 75% of the remaining superdelegates side with her... she'd still lose.

BalugaJoe 2008-05-31 08:10:07 PM
They should send Hillary to the space station.

Heh.

Christ, you know... I suspect we will be seeing this over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

I'm too dumb to figure out what the end result of this is, exactly, though.

One F Jef 2008-05-31 08:10:26 PM
Funny, a bunch of angry feminists get half of Florida. Since "rida" isn't girly enough, I'm guessing its going to be a heavy "Flo" day.

Cyborg77 2008-05-31 08:10:27 PM
Haven't seen this much action in the politics section since Eliot Spitzer hooker scandal.

Cat With Two Heads 2008-05-31 08:10:27 PM
I was confused by this:

The unanimous 27-0 vote grew out of a lingering controversy over the delegates in the state's disputed primary, which was not recognized by the party because it was held too early and gives Clinton a net gain of 19 delegates in Florida.

The FL primary would normally award Ms. Clinton with 19? Or will award her 19 now that the delegates have had their votes halved?

RichieLaw [TotalFark] 2008-05-31 08:10:57 PM
Weaver95: And once again, I reiterate - Hillary will not quit the race. she'll ignore today's procedural defeat, give a speech about 'fairness' and commit to a convention floor fight.

You're probably right, but I really think this will completely turn off a lot of delegates for her. Outside of the rabid female/old person vote, I think a lot of her supporters are beginning to get sick of this charade.

absoluteparanoia 2008-05-31 08:11:10 PM
So this means that any state can move their primary to their own date and run the election. The DNC will officially say that dozens of states "don't count".

If they matter, then they get added back on a case by case basis.

Is that about right? Has the DNC shot themselves in the foot?

KramericaWallet 2008-05-31 08:11:22 PM
I saw on Washington Post they decided to do Michigan 59-49 and give them half-votes, so it's
39.5-24.5 . Of course, it's completely arbitrary, but then again this whole thing is just for show.

I wonder whether Levin will still appeal.

VideoVader 2008-05-31 08:11:55 PM

Has it been updated since the DNC ruling?

Let the pollsters figure it out. They're the only ones that ever get it right anyway.

Skawt 2008-05-31 08:12:17 PM
Does Hillary not care that there has never been a winning presidential candidate when it came down to a convention delegate fight? I hope she likes having to sign off on the bills to fund the Iran war.

Maybe the secret service should look into them a bit sooner than later.

Just the opposite, you move your vote up you get penalized by at least 50%

it's so sad. really.

i've seen interviews with hillary supporters who honestly think obama is a "stealth muslim." better yet, i've seen them say they won't vote for him because he's black! bush supporters (or mccain supporters), i could understand... but how can a democrat be that farking stupid?

KramericaWallet 2008-05-31 08:13:11 PM
I mean 29.5-24.5 duh.
