Blah blah blah political expedience blah blah blah. Some things you have to do if you want a shot at the big seat, I guess.

I'm sure this will stop Republicans from mentioning it over and over again, due primarily to the fact that they can't compete on policy issues.

How noble of him to leave when it becomes politically inconvenient. It's a good thing he left, but it's about 20 years too late.

Fair_Poopsmith [TotalFark] 2008-05-31 06:32:58 PM
Damn, son.

Seems a little late to matter, though....Good for him, either way. That place was full of crazy.

GOBAMA.

Who cares? He's going to have trouble attending it with any regularity when he's living in the White House, anyway.

Broadside 2008-05-31 06:33:47 PM
The Rev. Wright is, for lack of, no.....that is the perfect word - CRAZY.

Dude was a political liability to say the least. You just know he has grandiose plans of hobnobbing with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and having revivals in the rose garden.

illusionofjoy 2008-05-31 06:33:48 PM
Hey now, stop that fuss! Everybody get underneath the bus!

He needs to hire that second preacher guy to write his speeches. He was hilarious!

Anything to ignore any actual policy problems O-bomb-a may have, such as not being anti-war, wanting to ban guns, and being in favor of a nanny state.

I'm hoping now he becomes the lead spokesman for Kwanzaa.

He probably thought he had packed it already and left it in the bathroom.

keytronic 2008-05-31 06:35:02 PM
What choice did he have after that stupid video popped up on youtube? I imagine he was quite furious at that ridiculous display from that preacher. I mean, seriously, does that church not understand the concept of youtube and the internets?

Call me crazy, but when a member of your congregation is on the cusp of becomming president, you may have to tone down the rhetoric.

Headline FAIL

Barack Obama leaves Rev. Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago

Fix it. No Clergy member owns a UCC church.

vegasj 2008-05-31 06:37:19 PM
it's because he found a Trinity Christian Church in DC to frequent.

FTW?

Well, he may not be leaving that denomination all together... just that one specific church.

Why should they? I really don't like the idea of them hiding what is in their hearts just so one of their own can get elected.

RamblingKey 2008-05-31 06:37:58 PM
Obama is showing how very NOT different he is than any other Chicago politician in the last 60 years.

Obama did community organizing in over a dozen churches in Chicago and during that period in his own words, the older folks would constantly want to know which church he was a member of. He didn't like any of the multitude of of respectable churches in Chicago, and instead chose to attend and rise in the church's social heirarchy in THE most racialist and ignorantly conspiratorial church there in Chicago.

And now he thinks he can bamboozle the country by orchestrating publicity stunts like this. It's an insult to the intelligence of even the mouth breathing morons who only get news from the local network TV news.

This orchestrated distancing from Trinity Church is so amateur hour and sloppy it's an insult to decent and competent political consults the world over.

dholway [TotalFark] 2008-05-31 06:38:12 PM
He went there for couple of decades and gave them tens of thousands of dollars, but now he's noticing that sometimes some objectionable things get said from the pulpit. They must have really toned things down when Obama was in the pews because he never ever heard the hardcore stuff.

Nuno311 2008-05-31 06:38:15 PM
It says a lot about Obama that his inner circle of friends and religious figures pretty much stab Obama in the back repeatedly.

The first Wright episode was a "gaffe"... the fact that it keeps coming means these people could care less about Obama and hes been fooled into thinking they care about him.

I dont want a President that can so easily be tricked....imagine what our enemies could do to such a susceptbile leader.

There's gotta be a way to spin this as a far more serious and important stain on Obama's candidacy.

I'll wait patiently for that spin to arrive.

jennyz 2008-05-31 06:40:18 PM

As much as I dislike Obama (mainly his policies), I do feel sorry for him in this regard. Not sympathy enough to vote for him by any means though, for exactly the reason you stated.

jjorsett 2008-05-31 06:40:22 PM
I wouldn't want to be affiliated with a bunch of idiots who don't know any better than to keep getting themselves in the news to my detriment either.

Spanky_McFarksalot 2008-05-31 06:40:59 PM
Good for Obama. That a check in his column.

I can't say that I'm surprised, but I am disappointed.

Darth Vader: Obi-Wan ... I've quit the Dark Side of the force...

Obi-Wan: Uh, perhaps those folks on Alderan will be thrilled to hear that... oh, snap...!

implementor 2008-05-31 06:41:34 PM
Now that the Trinity United church has done what Obama needed them for, to springboard him into a position of local importance (which he parlayed into State and then national power) he no longer needs them, and they're getting kicked to the curb. Especially because they're now a political liability.

ndotseth 2008-05-31 06:41:52 PM
In other news, the mosque next door welcomes its newest member.

X_Rated_Shennanigans 2008-05-31 06:42:10 PM
This actually makes me like Obama less.
