I'd guess incontinence is a bigger problem for the prisoner than his continent.

His penis was getting rotten in prison.....or he was getting rotten penis in prison?

he pleaded guilty with the explanation that conditions in the prisons were so bad that his penis was getting rotten and since he was innocent he could not bear the thought of having to be taken back there.

I suffer from "rotten penis", so I'm really getting a kick out of some of these replies.

Considering it's Ghana, it's certainly possible his penis was getting rotten. So were other parts of his anatomy. In parts of Africa, there are little worms that crawl up into various capillaries and sphincters and nest in your body tissues causing them to swell up, blacken and gangrene, and then drop off your body, which could probably cause fear and disgust in the person suffering from the condition.

I did find some pix, but they're really too nauseating for even me to post. Suffice it to say, if the man's penis really is rotten, perhaps escape is the least he could do.

As for third-world prison, they are probably worse than we can even imagine. Think big communal cells, overcrowded with people sleeping on the floor, communicable disease running rampant and guards with little or no code of conduct. Sanitation could potentially be "pretty dreadful" to "nonexistent".

Three months in even a nasty prison for mugging two old ladies? My sympathy level is running a bit low. He wasn't being beaten at random intervals. Given, maybe they didn't let him shower for a month or change is clothes, that might cause problems in a moist climate.
