Yeah, I love looking at old videos and music. They're so non-topical and antiquated.

/Srsly watching vh1 80s with the kid telling her about recent history and film development.

Quaint, but sincere.

Still one of the most annoying, patronizing, incoherent, naive songs in the history of music. God damn it I hate that song.

And yet I found the follow-up campaign where they purchased billboard space in Manhattan "for peace" to be refreshingly worldly and cynical.

It used to matter when people did things. Now it just looks dated and quaint.

And that song has always seemed extremely naive to me, even as there is a place for things all across a spectrum of opinion, its ubiquity is far higher than its silliness ought to allow.

jwhite33 2008-05-31 05:39:04 PM
Ah, it was a better world before everyone convinced themselves it was cool to be cynical and ironic.

Naive-but-sincere beats jaded-and-ironic any day in my book.

Too bad we have no celebs these days with his balls.

Naive? Maybe to cynics.

He risked his career and life to advertise peace. What have you done to change the world for the better? Drive a Prius?

Yep.

Crappy musician, simplistic, trite lyrics and a beat that makes
'Bo Diddley' seem complicated.

'Peace' is NOT the absence of war.

I bet John would want to talk to the Jihadists too, not realizing that if they actually came to power he would be one of the first ones hanging by his neck.

C'mon people, I don't know what all the resistance is all about. Just give peas a chance. They're a very nutritious side dish.

And, while we're not on the subject, what's all this fuss I keep hearing about violins on television? Why don't parents want their kids to see violins on television?

Notice how conservatives just can't stand peace, the idea of peace, even the talking about peace?

They can't talk about it--they mock and ban and make fun of someone just for suggesting you even think about it. If John had set up a PR stunt that simply promoted his album--no problem. Because he'd be there purely to make money, which is the only thing conservatives seem to approve of.

The whole point was that the press was going to cover WHATEVER he and Yoko did, so why not try and get a conversation about peace going. That's all, just TALK about it. About the possibility of it -- that maybe war isn't the answer to every farking problem.

Seems conservatives get their hate on the most whenever someone wants to do GOOD in the world, like health care, peace, helping people. Or just dares to talk about it.

Seriously, what is wrong with you people?

musicky 2008-05-31 11:44:27 PM

"Risk"? Peace isn't exactly an unpopular opinion. He just preached to the choir and reaped the rewards back in his mansion.

I don't know if John would have a problem asking that question.

I see conservatives have a hard time answering it.

Now, now, now. Just because you idolize a man with deep emotional issues about his mother, who abandoned his oldest son and didnt have the brains to avoid being hustled by that hack 'artist' Yoko is no need to call ME names.

Since when are musicians songs or views on ANYTHING, let alone politics, above reproach?

'Dont understand'? You name gives you away; if you make heros out of pop stars it shows something is lacking inside of you.

Sorry for destroying your image of JL; he was just a guy, no more no less.

Funny how you folks ALWAYS find a way to bring Christians into these things. Why is that? It's members of Islam that are seeking to covert the West or kill it for its preceived corruption.

You folks are tiring in your childish views of a Christian base theopoly when no exists but your ignorance of the goals Islamic run states such as Iran is truly frightening.

You want to see a police state where dissenting views aren't tolerated, books and music are destroyed and people are NOT deported but imprisoned without trials, go to the Middle East, the Islams run a number of them.

By the way you seem to have issues with people expressing their views, especially when they run contrary to what YOU 'think' is correct.

Go read the Constitution and get back to me.

mfaby - i'll say it. you're a right wing fascist idiot who has absolutely no understanding of the WHOLE world around you. you only understand what your preacher has told you from his pulpit. if you really did read the Bible like you would looove to make us THINK that you have, you would promptly shut the hell up and know that Jesus would talk to you in the same way that John Lenon would have - in a calm and peaceful manner. in no way am I equating JL with JC in any other form than that both of them would tolerate you and give you choices - be a peaceful man, or be a hateful, nagging ignorant jackass (like me)

the difference is that I know what I am - do you know what you are, or do I need to tell you again?

karnal 2008-06-01 10:12:13 PM
As long as there are people like musicky and mfaby freely spreading hate, peace will never have a chance. And it is not that it is just their opinion - everyone has an opinion and that is fine - but they are the ones that hold in contempt anything that does not conform to their small little point of view. It is one thing not to like the song or the artist - quite another to hate the song or the artist because they don't like it. So we must just learn to tolerate the intolerant and ignore the ignorant.
