If Hillary had actually conceded the race months ago when it was clear she couldn't win without resorting to massive underhanded tactics, then the Obama supporters would have actually contributed a lot to the convention fund. But with all the controversy and lack of an obvious winner, people are less likely to contribute to the "other" candidate's celebratory party.

Neither Obama or Clinton is 110% sure they have the nomination so right now there isn't much excitement from either candidate's people for the convention. Once there is a sure candidate, they can probably raise the money.

Of course there's a reason. It's the same reason just about every company in America will have a "sales meeting" in Barbados or somewhere for their top producers. It's a reward for the hard-working underlings; a chance for them to get away from their wives and score some hookers and blow.

Well if they didn't need to use union members, that would have saved a lot in costs. The DNC having to retire Hillary's isn't going help the problem at all.

That's $15 million short on a $40 million budget. Not that your comparison is very fair, but if you scale that up to our current budget levels, that's a $120 trillion dollar deficit. The democratic party doesn't have the power of taxation, though.
