You can't have clusterf*cks without cluster bombs.

Subby, you come up with a plan that doesn't involve using cluster bombs and land mines to prevent north Korea from coming across the DMZ.

Within 12 hours, 1 million troops will cross the border and 12 million civillians will be under siege.

No retaliation can act as a defense because North Korea is now a nuclear power.

Behind closed doors we agreed to sign on the condition that there be an exemotion for the DMZ for both land mines and cluster bombs but no one else would go along becuase they felt it would justify our "imperialism" in South Korea.

Until then, stop beating up on America for extending itself to do the rest of the world's dirty work.

Of those 111 countries, probably on 10 of them have CB's anyway, so what difference does that make?

Does it really matter that Costa Rica is not going to use them?

Yeah, well, it's called "taking a moral stand." Like unequivocally condemning preemptive strikes unilateral international aggression, enhanced interrogation techniques torture and agreeing to fundamental international law and silly, imaginary schitt like that.

I'm no proponent of cluster bombing civilian areas, as the Israelis did without any regrets in the Lebanon War, but I'd rather hang onto these in our arsenal for now when every other major power has not signed this treaty.

angryjd: Subby, you come up with a plan that doesn't involve using cluster bombs and land mines to prevent north Korea from coming across the DMZ.

It's a use thing though. The DMZ has known land mines in it. Everyone knows it, and everyone keeps out.

If people more openly acknowledged the fact that using cluster bombs is basically LAYING a new mine field with not so great precision from the air, it would be a start. Because that's the problem, when they get used in areas with people living nearby.

People get blowed up long after the fight is over, but even when they don't, fields are put out of use for a while because it's known they're basically minefields that need clearing, which takes time, so you can't grow anything on there yet, and is a big local economic hit, etc.

The suggestion by some at the conference to look into improving the weapons to get them all to explode right away was a good one. Though for obvious reasons I'd assume the countries that use them already are doing this.

I'd like to announce that I personally will never ever nuke a whale. Not like I have any to use or that I'll ever acquire nuclear weapons, but it feels good to say that and I want to take a moral stand.

By now South Korea should be standing on their own. The U.S. is subsidizing their economy by having U.S. forces there to our detriment.

If by "under siege" you mean "digging themselves out of the rubble formerly known as Seoul after 20,000 artillery pieces destroy the city", you're right.

North Korea had a trump card to ensure they get first strike long before they got nukes. If shiat ever does hit the fan in the peninsula, Seoul is toast. And there's not much anyone can do about it, no matter how many cluster bombs or landmines you put in the DMZ.

We don't have them, so we'll sign a treaty that will take them away from you too.
