All they have to do to satisfy the judge's objections is to run a check on tenants and inform ICE of the ones that are illegal. Then its the feds who'd be rousting them instead of the city.

It's a step in the right direction. They need to bar the construction, lawn mowing and food prep industry from hiring them, not the apartments from renting to them. I am not talking about fines, I'm talking about pound me in the ass prison.

The punishment of landlords is particularly ridiculous. If the illegal guests make it across the border, they should have access to social services and the ability to get a home. If the government can't do it's job, it's not private citizens fault. The illegal guests are human beings and shouldn't be treated like gutter trash for trying to make it in the world. They pay taxes, so they should be treated as any guest would. This country is pretty disrespectful to the backbone of its economy.

I'm just curious...Who's going to be building all these houses and serving food at Mcdonald's then? high schoolers are spoiled little biatches thanks to mom and dad and construction work would probably have to double their hourly wage for a citizen or legal alien to do the job. Therefore we will have a lack of housing and we'll have to sleep outside if the illegal aliens.

It's not the hourly wage that lures general contractors to the Mexicans. It's the work ethic. I'd be surprised if they were actually paid substantially less then other races for construction jobs. Most Mexicans I see are working with all-Mexican subcontractors, which probably don't work much different than non-Mexican subs, except only one person on the jobsite needs to know any English.

We do need to start treating them as humans. And the only way to do that is to start pretending our immigration laws don't exist.

Subby realizes that, in France, they treat the legal immigrants worse than we treat the illegal trespassers, right? Why do you think the youth of the muslim community there routinely set things on fire? It's sure not because they hate freedom, wine, and cheese.

And we are treating illegal immigrants as humans -- if they were animals, we'd hardly be holding them to a minimum standard of cooperating with the rules that keep society running. Being human is a lot more about being responsible for your actions than people giving you free shiat you don't deserve under the laws of any country.

//For instance, US hospitals will treat anyone that has an "emergency"-level injury, without asking who they are or where they come from. Won't be as good care as if you scheduled in advance, for obvious reasons, but it's there.

And I suppose that your ancestors are not immigrants to this continent?

At least the Latino workers are native to what is now known as the North American continent.

If I remember my history correctly Texas used to be part of Mexico, and Latinos have been living in this part of the country longer than the Anglos.

So who is the immigrant?

BTW: I know that every time I buy something I pay a sales tax. I know that who ever owns the property where I live pays property tax. How do these brown people get around paying these taxes?

Yeesh.

1) It's poor logic to compare illegals with the underground railroad. The situation with illegals is a farking invasion. Also, we're talking about crossing over national borders, not state borders.

2) We need immigration quotas. Otherwise, we're letting in too many people who are uneducated, and are more likely to sponge off of social programs.

Also, if Cubans are allowed to be granted instant amnesty, then it's only fair that everyone else it gets it. It isn't like the Mexicans, or others, are coming here to lounge around. They want just want to work.

First, the oldest discriminatory policy is one that lets Cubans who have left Cuba for the United States enter and stay in the United States despite their illegal entry. That policy is accomplished by the use of the discretionary authority conferred on the Executive Branch in our immigration law to parole an alien into the country despite the lack of proper documentation. As a result of being paroled into the country, the Cuban illegal entrants are given a work permit. That policy has been in effect for decades - since the Castro-led revolution declared itself to be communist and allied with the Soviet Union in the early 1960s.

Nobody has the right to invade our borders....nobody.

By and large, it's not the educated people from Mexico sneaking in, it's the uneducated poor people, and we already have enough problems in this country.

That's fine, immigration should be a case by case basis. But if you come here, you need to agree that you will never receive welfare and food stamps.

My Dad is Ukrainian (immigrated to America legally as a toddler). Back in junior high, we were at a toy store, and he overheard some couple speaking Ukrainian. He talked to them for a bit, and when they left, he told me that they were on welfare.

We're talking about social programs right now, not the military. Regardless, we need to severely cut a lot of federal spending so we can pay off the national debt.

More social programs are going to be a disaster for this country, and socialism is the last thing we need.

All I want is lower taxes, less government, less gun control, and the freedom to smoke a cigar at a private business. That isn't too much to ask.

Sucks for California. At least here in Texas we're projected to have a $10 billion surplus, even with all the illegal immigrants.Link (new window)

On another note, considering that Texas has a Property Tax, not an income tax, and considering the fact that landlords will increase the rent of tenants in their property to pay for the tax, isn't that forcing illegal immigrants to pay taxes? But again, the city council of Farmers Branch is full of xenophobic idiots, so what do you expect?

If they are 100% Aztec, they are native to the region now generally known as Mexico. That's about it.

If they are descended from Spaniards (as virtually all of them are), then they are 'native' to nothing in this hemisphere.

Mestizo is a Spanish term that was formerly used in the Spanish Empire and continues to be used today in Latin America to refer to people of mixed European (Spaniard) and Amerindian ancestry living in the region of Latin America.

You want to end illegal immigration, perhaps even reverse it, here's how:

The justice department makes a statement that they will be severely enforcing existing immigration laws. Two, they make an example of several serious offending companies. Once companies realize this can hurt their bottom line, they'll knock it off. Once illegals realize they can't get a job, they'll leave.

The_Sponge: All I want is lower taxes,.

Don't we all?

less government,

It takes more government to enforce immigration laws.

less gun control,

Less than what? And you know... what is it about gun control that gets people so worked up? Every other Constitutional Amendment has known restrictions. You can't yell fire in a crowded theater. The 4th and 5th Amendments apparently don't apply to certain situations; e.g., DUI cases or suspected "terrorists", or no knock warrants that are wrongfully executed on a regular basis by paramilitary forces that call themselves "police". Yet, one mention of restrictions on the 2nd amendment sends people in a tizzy that should be equally applied to every other right being taken away from us. Why don't "conservatives" get as passionate about protecting our civil liberties?

and the freedom to smoke a cigar at a private business.

I think we can all agree on that.

I'll say the same thing I always say in these threads, and it always falls on deaf ears:

If you want to curtail illegal immigration, strictly enforce labor and wage laws. Make sure everyone is held to the same high standards, minimum wage, etc, and shut down companies that violate those laws.

An ever-increasing number of poor people make the cigars you smoke, the clothes you wear, harvest, pack, and trasport the food you eat, fix what you don't throw away, clean your streets and your toilet -- and you begrudge them the ability to feed their children and have a roof over their head? What are you, a tsar?
