Seven years ago, I would have dismissed this story as tinfoil-hatted paranoia.

That was a pre-John Woo world.

I, for one, am glad there are COG plans. Because when the time comes that they need to be implemented, it will be way too late to 'devise' a working plan.

Not everything can be transparent.

You know what would be really scary? If the government went as far as to build secret bunkers to hide members of all branches of the government as part of this kind of contingency plan.

quite honestly, if there is a major attack on this country i damn well hope our government has a plan ready to be implemented. my concerns are over the duration and specifics of such a plan - i don't quite trust a politician to simply hand over powers such as these on their own.

Nestea Plunge: Texas has the refueling and refitting center at Kelly Air Force Base

250 miles away. Dyess is much closer (25 miles). A target? Perhaps. However, military targeting has not been the primary objective of those who have done such things in the US.

has camoflaged ICBM sites

Dyess was the last place in Texas that had nukes save for Pantex. They were pulled in the 90's.

I'd expect Dallas, Austin and Houston to be targeted for reasons of population and economic centers.

Closest is 200 miles (Dallas).

Oh man, this. I live two blocks from the Pentagon, and about a half-mile from National Airport (I can see the runways from my balcony). If there's ever a major attack on the DC area, I doubt I'll even realize it's happening before I'm vaporized.

Back on-topic for a bit, though, this sort of thing will be a real test of the Democrats if Obama gets elected this fall: just how many of these insane surveillance programs will he expose and/or stop? If he gets into office and puts the smackdown on extra-Constitutional BS like this, he's earned my perpetual respect.

Of course, if Congress' behavior on the subject is any indication, it'll be more of the same, so I'm not holding my breath. It'd just be nice.

I'm not worried - i've planned ahead. I'm only 3 miles from a primary target site. A milisecond of brilliant light, and it's over.

strike me as a bit, well, overreaching.

just like the bombs that aren't going to drop on iran this fall? feel free to cast aspersions anyway as if bush personally dropped 'em.

oh and feel free to keep running obama against bush - I guarantee he'll get more votes than bush this fall, only McCain will get more than both.

Suicidal Writer 2008-05-29 11:43:11 AM
Many people consider Abraham Lincoln to be one of the greatest presidents ever. His administration ran roughshod over the Constitution. I don't see how the current, or a future, US government would be different. If history is any indicator, the president that oversees the subversion of the Constitution will go down as one of the most respected presidents.

Obama can run against Bush and win as long as McCain keeps humping his leg like a retarded Jack Russell Terrier.

Having long since settled on my "if I'm not dead" plan (involves a nice walk over to fireclown's house), I'm more concerned with not being vaporized, burned to a crisp, or dying of radiation sickness (depending on where The Bomb is dropped).

/P-Funk may drop "Da Bomb" as they see fit. Millions will get "seriously freaky".

what the fark are you talking about?

what I said is true, the reason people over react to these kinds of plans is that they don't trust bush. what do you disagree with exactly?

I didn't say I thought bush would use this that way, frankly I don't think he could pull something like that off. even, if there were some terrible attack. his reputation is in the toilet.

oh and feel free to keep running obama against bush - I guarantee he'll get more votes than bush this fall, only McCain will get more than both.

I wonder if you're mistaking me for someone else, I didn't say anything about obama.

since your post was a bit incoherent I'm not sure if you're trying to defend bush. but, if you are, let me tell you I've never felt more confident about obama's presidential bid than when a bush fan tells me it's not gonna happen. bushies have bet on the opposite side of right for many years now. thanks for your support.
